No need for sleep?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else have a sort of insomnia post surgery? I'm not in pain or terribly tired I just don't seem to need to sleep at the moment, I've tried to be disciplined and go to bed at a sensible time, staying busy and not napping during the day but it doesn't seem to make any difference. It's not a huge problem to me and seems trivial compared to others troubles but I guess I'm curious if this is common.

I have been wondering the same thing because I have the same problem. I am 2wks post op and I can't sleep, I don't nap anymore and I wake up at the Crack of dawn now. It's weird!!

Maybe it's that there's no more food coma - that very well might be the case for me in 10 days. I know whenever I have fasted I would have lots of energy as none of it is tied up digesting my food I guess.

The first week after surgery I slept more than usual. I think some of it was catching up from the pretty much complete lack of sleep the night I spent in the hospital.

Once I was caught up, though, I've found myself waking up earlier than before. I think it has to do with the fact that I was just on the edge of sleep apnea, and the weight loss from the pre-op diet program pretty much took care of that, so I'm getting better sleep, and thus waking up earlier.

All I do is sleep if I'm not at work or eating... I can sleep 14 to 16 hours at a time and still take a nap. I'm pre op.

I am hoping that once I am off liquids and move to food I will get a little more energy. But to be honest, as a single Mom it is nice to take care of just myself these past few days doing nothing but focusing on me.

This no-sleep situation is typical low-carb side effect. I've done low carb on-and-off (mostly on) for 10 years.

Some say it raises cortisol.

I can't sleep when I go hard-core low carb, sleeve or no-sleeve.

being in Ketosis causes insomnia for some people - me included as do some painkillers, Tramadol makes many people sleepy but for me it keeps me wide awake until 4am!

I'm having trouble with insomnia too. Reflux is also giving me a hard time. I have times where I feel exhausted but most of the time I'm doing ok. The reflux is driving me nuts. I'm hoping when I can sleep actually laying down that will be better!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
