I HATE protein shakes

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any suggestions on other ways to get in Protein? I have only been able to drink 1 or 2 sips lately. Its a brand and flavor I like. I used to love them, but now they repulse me. I'm two weeks post op. I can eat things like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and oatmeal

You could try Fairlife Skim milk. Or maybe try some unflavored protien powder in Soups or juice or I even mix vanilla Protein powder (about 1/2 scoop) into 1/2 container of greek yogurt. That helps. But mostly I have to tell you that you may just have to keep experimenting until you can find one you like. Your tastes sometimes change, so you have to keep trying. Some good suggestions are Premier Protein (chocolate, vanilla or berry). Try putting some Torani sugar free flavored syrups into the vanilla one to see if you can find a taste combo you like. Or I use Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate (Chocolate and Vanilla) which I really like and I add in a little PB2.

keep trying...

I remember the first Protein Powder I bought absolutely disgusted me! I took two sips and told my husband "I can't do this, this is horrible!" I went online and did some research found this woman's blog and Pinterest board; all my Protein woes disappeared.

I have discovered that with some inspiration, trial and error and creativity, getting enough protein in shouldn't be a problem.

I have been eating Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt. It was 15 grams of protein and if I mix the banana Cream or Vanilla Flavor with PB2 powder I can get up to 20 grams of protein per serving. And yes there are more calories in the Triple Zero than the Dannon L&F but it taste way better.

See, I don't want to go out and buy anymore Protein Shakes. I only have a few more days on them and then my surgeon wants me to only eat solid food to get my Protein in. I was thinking of trying the Isopure drinks at GNC

I really like the RTD Isopure " Apple melon" it's like a liquid jolly rancher. I can't do cakey chocolatey vanillay anything!!!

I'm allergic to whey Protein. So my options for Protein shakes are milk based (lactose free though) or plant based. The plant based have no disgusting! I've tried Vega One and Raw Fit. I've tried egg whites base Protein shake by Jay Robb...GROSS!!! Actually when I wasn't allergic... Jay Robbs strawberry Protein Powder mixed vanilla almond milk, tasted like a strawberry milkshake.

My daily choice now is Organic Valley Organic Fuel, they're already mixed, they come in vanilla and milk chocolate. Absolutely delicious! They're not too sweet, they don't taste like they're trying to mask a taste with sweetener. Definitely my favorite! You can mix the vanilla with different sugar free Torani syrups . Oh, they are expensive. I pay $5 for one bottle.

Good luck!!!!

I'm on day three of my pre-op diet and drinking an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein shake right now. Ugh. It gets the gas face.

I've still got five long weeks of Protein shakes ahead of me, so I need to figure something out.

Will probably find some low cal/carb recipes on Pinterest and make them myself.

Found this one a minute ago. Will try it and let you all know how it all goes down.

@@dannieeliza My latest fave ... Protein2o Water (like H2o)! These taste great! You can go to their website drinkprotein2o.com and put your zip code in to find a store near you. Even though your doctor wants you to get your Protein only from food, if you're going to try and get the maximum amount of Protein in to lose weight and not your hair, you may have to still supplement with at least 1 Protein Drink per day. I'm almost 6 months post-op and I still use Premier vanilla protein ready made shakes as my coffee Creamer and drink one of these to get in my 110-120 grams per day and keep my calories around 850.

You might want too order a sample pack of Protein. I ordered a sample pack of Syntrax nectar powders, I got 12 different flavors, each package is a serving. It was a good way to try everything before committing to a tub of something I might not like (even though I liked most of the flavors). The Syntrax Nectar range has a lot of fruity flavors and most you mix with Water so you aren't getting the thick/sweet consistently. I ended up buying a tub of Roadside Lemonade (which I add a little squirt of strawberry/watermelon Water flavor to) and double stuffed cookie and I'm going to order another sample pack to keep at home just for variety.

After having to drink them so often after the surgery I HATED Protein Shakes too! I had my favorite brand and flavor and still couldn't do it. I was drinking Glucerna, but ironically the sugar alcohol made me dump...so I had to get Protein through yogurts, puddings (sugar free), milk and tuna. it was tough, but it does get better. Hang in there!

Could you make a smoothie with yogurt, milk, and some liquid egg whites...maybe some fruit? They are pasteurized and 3 TBL has 5g of protein. I used to add liquid egg whites to my green smoothies and couldn't taste them.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
