Hey everyone! I am 3.5 months out and have been doing really well. I'm down 42 pounds since surgery date and feeling great!

However.... I find myself often times being a bit "off". I'm usually really quick, and have a great memory, but since surgery I've become very forgetful and slow to the punch. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I've been getting so frustrated! I feel like I need brain food! Any suggestions?

Feel free to message me if you don't want to post this in the open...

1) Are you on any meds? I found I needed to switch from extended release Adderall to regular (I break the tablets up and dose over the day). Some meds actually change how they affect you after surgery because absorption changes.

2) Protein helps as does exercise.

3) Depending on age and family factors don't rule out other causes. It's a dangerous thing to assume "oh this is happening because of this." This type of logic has killed many people. Sometimes this things are related, other times not. Correlation does not imply causation

Thanks for the reply! I've never been on any meds. Luckily I'm pretty healthy (other than the excess weight). I exercise regularly however I will admit I probably don't get enough Protein. I suppose that might have something to do with it. I just don't feel as sharp as I was pre-op. I also feel like it's more exhausting to be outgoing (which is very unlike me!). I've become a tad anti-social.

One of the advantages of keeping a food log is I'm able to look back and see if something is missing when things start to feel out of sorts. (Hint, hint lurkers). I don't know if you are or aren't. If you are, look back and see, if not you might want to start (esp. when the memory is starting to slip - only a partial joke)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
