I'm having 2 shakes a day & my 3rd meal is a healthy choice or smart one with no potatoes or corn. I lost 7 lbs doing this in one month. I know I don't lose very fast, my body just shuts down. I've been trying to move around more & that seems to help.

What does a typical day look like food wise for you? I'm on my 2 week pre-op diet, surgery is in 3 days. My diet consists of:

3-5 Protein Shakes/day w/ 8 oz skim milk

Non starchy veggies seasoned w: soy sauce, teriyaki, hot sauce, vinegar, mustard, etc. I can also use the Italian dressing packets that you make at home MINUS the oil, just the packet, Water and vinegar.

sugar free Jello, Popsicles, and Water ice.

broth

So far I have lost 10lbs within 11 days, 19 since my highest weight in July. Give it time, you should see the scale move!

Ugh, I am only allowed liquids, nothing solid, for a month. I'm supposed to lose 20 lbs in this month! (I had attempted bypass last month and my surgeon found too much fat in the omentum around the small intestine so it could not be stretched up to reach the stomach)

I get 4 Protein shakes/day (I can't do milk or soy so I use almond milk with 2 and Water with the other 2). Then I can have several servings of low cal yogurt, sugar-free pudding, plain oatmeal (1/2 cup) or unsweetened applesauce. and V-8.

I've lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks but have to kick it up somehow to reach 20 lbs in 2 more weeks. Very hard to stick with this, I want something to actually chew.

You are not alone. My surgery is October 15 and have Been on a liquid diet for one week. I haven't lost but 2 pounds but I feel as if I am hungry all the time. Gets worst just before bed. I'm gonna just stick to it and hope everything works out. This pre-op is the WORST, but as I understand it is well worth it in the end. My surgeon did remind me that the purpose of the Liquid Protein diet is to shrink the liver, thus making surgery easier. So maybe the weight loss is only secondary. Right now I don't know what to think. I'm just ready for the next week to go by!

@@WillieBradley I agree!! But if I am not losing anything how do I know if my liver is shrinking. I am scared , the doc will have to open me or not do it at all!

@@cjd2010 I have no idea. I have the same concerns. I have read about others with the same issue but had successful surgery. However, that does not minimize my concerns. I don't have the answer. But somehow I do feel we are going to be ok.

my 2 week pre-op diet is only 1 shake for Breakfast, 1 shake for lunch, then I can have a 300 cal dinner, 3 oz of meat, like chicken or fish, a salad with only 1TB of light dressing or a light yogurt or a small piece of fruit,

Seems like you all are able to eat more than I can, but in just these almost 2 weeks, I have lost 21 lbs.

Good Luck!

I gained 14lb after I quit smoking and already had to loss 15 additional by the surgery date in 10 days so I started my "2-week" pre diet one week early (after being on Atkins for 3 weeks prior to that) and last week had only lost 6 of the 29 I had to lose but this week weigh in i lost 13 lbs...keep it up!!! It will come off and don't stress...stress causes your body to produce a hormone called cortisol and that will stop weight loss so just be calm and keep eating and drinking what you need to...the weight will come off and you will be fine.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
