Hey folks. I have surgery on 10/13 and I started my diet Thursday afternoon. I've done good with it so far but man alive its getting harder by the second. Any advice on ways to not cheat. ? My nurse said I would only have enough days for 10 days between now and the surgery date. I am not sure how long it takes too shrink my liver but i just don't think that's enough time. Comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you. Will

Boy Howdy…Can I relate? Let me first just encourage you that the pre-surgery diet is the hardest part because your stomach hasn't been altered yet. So, just remember that and be encouraged that it will get easier. Try to pass the time with hobbies, visiting with friends, reading, going to bed early. Whatever you have to do. Do things you enjoy and help pass the time! I spent my time with friends and not alone. That really helped, and each day was fun because I was with new friends everyday. Best of luck!

Thank you very much. I've all ready slipped up once :-( but I WILL NOT let it happen again. That's a promise to me. I've wanted this so bad and it's gonna happen. I just hope and pray it doesn't make my surgeon post pone once he gets inside. Thanks again for the advice.

Howdy Will.

I'm also doing the pre-op diet for surgery on October 13th.

I started it last Monday.

It does suck, but the surgery footage videos and instruction from my surgeon and nutritionist was enough of a scare to keep me strictly adhereing to it.

I've been trying to stay busy and not think too much about it.

I've found that I do better when using the pre-mixed Pure Protein shakes as they are much thicker and taste really good. They seem to hold me the longest.

The other thing that I've had to learn is to drink them on schedule and not wait long intervals between shakes. I actually forgot to have my second shake of the day the past two days as there was no hunger......but then all the sudden I started feeling weak, lightheaded and puny. I remembered that it'd been 6-7 hours since the first shake and I'd been walking a good bit at work when the feeling hit.

I'm sure that this is a bad, bad suggestion......but it is helping keep me sane and not cheating: coffee & DIET MOUNTAIN DEW. I feel bad for this admission, but I've had a couple Diet Dews each day and began each day with two large cups of coffee (with Splenda). I miss the flavor of creamer....but it's better than not having it at all.

I'm slamming down the Water, too. I find myself making hourly walks to the bathroom. I'll be well hydrated right up until the night before surgery.

The absolute most difficult part of this deal for me by far is not being able to have NSAIDs. Tylenol is not winning the battle. Even though I'm enthused and upbeat....I'm moving around like an old, old man.

Good luck. You are rewarding yourself by staying strict. Surgery day will be here soon.

are u doing better today? The first pre-op diet I did was for 14 days (I cancelled surgery the day before) and the first 3 or 4 were the worst, the last 10 were ok. This time around I'm doing a 10 pre-op diet and know what to expect. I drank lots of Water and ate sugar-free Jello to stop the headaches.

Hey. I am hoping today goes better and until my surgery I do good. It's so agrivating that I've messed up once all ready. But I know I can do it because I want this so badly. Hope you do great as well and good luck with your surgery

Please don't let me lead you in a wrong direction regarding the coffee. It helps me and small quantities are allowed by my surgeon.

Another surgeon that I consulted with did not allow any caffeine during the preop.

I don't want to suggest something that is counterproductive

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
