Hi it's my first post. I'm brandy and had my first appointment and it was to meet the doctor. Dr. Avara will be doing my sleeve. I also had my nutrition 101 class. My next appointment is with the psychologist on Monday then I go for PET class "peri operative educational training. The insurance coordinator said we can then turn everything into insurance for approval. I'm hoping to have surgery this year. I have met my deductible and all of the out of pocket so 100% coverage. I have bcbstx my only requirements are to have a 40 bmi and a psych evaluation, but my doctor requires three weigh-ins and cannot go under my 40 bmi. I've had two weigh-ins one more to go. I'm very anxious and excited at the same time. Can not wait for this change in my life. My downfall is soda yes I have a problem with Coke it is my favorite and I am trying to slowly get this under control to stop completely from drinking them. I don't have a problem with drinking Water I just would rather have the Coke because of course it taste so much better:)) I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for this lifetime "lifestyle" change. I have to admit I Love Food... I love the taste, the smell and the feeling of being full. Who wants to their tummies growling??? My problem is well of course too much of it a full plate then seconds. I can't wait to have my stomach to be half the size and start on my road to recovery from this food addiction. Would love to have some Bariatric pals to help me as well them on this new life....

Welcome!

I know how hard it is to give up pop. That was probably one of my biggest mental blocks. I successfully weaned myself off of carbonation and caffeine before surgery. The good thing is, I no longer crave it now that it's out of my system.

Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Welcome @brandylc.

This is a great site to learn from and join in, make friends and get support. My downfall was wine, I used to love one glass every night (more at the weekends) especially with a meal. I haven't missed it at all and haven't craved it. I have to be honest and say I have found it difficult not drinking fluids with a meal. I think thats a habit I have had forever but it is getting easier.

Kate

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
