Naturally Thin People ... omgosh!

I know exactly what you’re talking about! It makes me roll my eyes when someone with a perfect body eats something that would make me gain 2 lbs if I even looked at it! And then they have to talk about the trouble it’s going to get them in. Yeah, right.

But to be fair…most, if not all, of the thin people I know work really hard at it. At least, all the thin people I’m close enough to to be able to have some idea of what they do to stay thin. They go to the gym. They think about each bite they take, even if they don’t log it like most WLS do or count grams of Protein. They worry about the scale.

Yes, a lot of them had a “head start” on us – maybe they have better genes, or grew up with more nutritionally-oriented parents, or naturally loved to be active, but many of them work really hard at it. I understand their need to say they’re going to start a diet, or they feel guilty about eating some bad food. They’re only human, just like us.

Maybe if WLS had a little more empathy for naturally thin people, and naturally thin people were a little more understanding of our extra struggles…the world would be a nicer place. Until then…yeah…keep your donut breath out of my face!

I know everyone has their body issues. But if you're talking about someone who is naturally thin then from my experience they don't work at it, they're just skinny no matter what they eat. I have a naturally thin cousin, we went to college together and I had to stop having meals with her because it killed me to see her eat more than twice what I was eating. And I know she never exercised

@@Babbs Well said and I totally agree! And although my son is normal weight, thus far, I teach him not only Self love and respect, but love and respect to others as well. I don't want to raise a child who hates himself or who discriminates against others.

I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that although there are people with faster and with slower metabolism, and although it's harder to maintain the weight if you used to be overweight, most people who are thin just don't eat as much and/or they exercise.

Of course when someone slim tells me 'I've just eaten two donuts' my first thought is exactly the same as your. But I must honestly and unwillingly admit that I didn't get obese by eating one donut per day - I overate in terms of calories and portions every single day, and I could easily stuff myself with 3-4 donuts a time. :) I know not everyone works out and watches the food intake, but still... I'm pretty sure they don't binge like I use to.

I pay a lot more attention these days to how much others are eating. (Pre-op, I didn't notice that so much.)

And in my estimation, only a few of my skinny friends are eating "a lot." When eating out at restaurants, they generally order what they enjoy eating and what they find delicious (not particularly low-calorie food), but they usually don't eat it all and leave food on their plates. They don't eat a lot of bread (or any).

A lot of them are "foodies" -- they cook a lot at home, share recipes, and are on the lookout for where good food is served.

They exercise -- walk a lot, do strength training, and yoga.

Every once in a while, they take a break from food -- doing a mini-cleanse diet, eschewing alcohol for a few weeks or a month, etc.

They stay well hydrated (they're seldom without a bottle or glass of Water nearby).

Yes, some of them do complain about having gained five pounds and how they need to take it off. But they always do seem to lose those five pounds. And then gain it. And then lose it again.

This is what their normal looks like.

Sounds like "maintenance" to me. :)

I agree with @@VSGAnn2014

My "naturally thin" friends are actually "naturally watchful" people. Most order an appetizer or a soup/salad when we go out and always leave food behind. Those who "eat all day" generally only take a bite or three here and there and it's NOT chips/brownies/cookies. When they do take a piece of cake, it's an eensy slice despite all the "You can have more! You are so skinny!!" from the other women. Yes, they have "fat days" -- generally because they've reached the top of the bounce range THEY allow themselves. A few of them have even joined WWs with only 10 pounds to lose because they are smart. They are staying on top of the game BEFORE their weight is a real issue.

I now do what they do, something I wasn't able to do before my sleeve. I wish I would have figured this out 20 years and 110+ pounds ago.

I believe the original poster states hatred and prejudice while being fat, she didn't say that it is the worst thing in the world, I agree with what she said, obesity the world's only acceptable form of prejudice.......................

Yeah I hate when skinny people say they are fat. Omg.

And, the worker who said being fat is the worst thing ever.... She is proof that it's true. Society treats overweight people HORRIBLY and she probably doesn't want her daughters to experience that sort of hatred and prejudice. It's so sad.
Heck, I had a roommate say in front of me that she didn't want to ever gain weight because she would look like a beached whale and then glance over at me in disgust. Smh.
I've had a lot of experience getting bullied for my weight. And my romantic life SUCKS. I definitely wouldn't wish this on my own daughter (should I ever have one). I wish the world treated us as equals, but it Doesn't. Sad truth.

You can't POSSIBLY be insinuating that there's nothing worse in the human experience than being fat??

I can name a few just off the top of my head:

Losing a child

Suffering from cancer

Living in a war torn country

I mean, let's get some perspective here....

I was just venting about a naturally thin co-worker and her donuts ...

I thought "Rants & Raves" was the proper room to vent ... so that is what I was doing ...

I don't know any thin people who don't work hard at being and keeping thin. As a pre-op dieter, I assumed all thin people just ate what they wanted then either worked out all the time or had fast metabolisms. Now while that may apply to *some* thin individuals it definitely doesn't encompass *all* thin people.

My SIL is a very beautiful woman with a great body. She likes to drink her wine and have her gourmet dinners. She enjoys the types of foods I so often loved to cook, eat and share. The difference being, she would never consume in one sitting the amount of food I would. Never.

She may have a couple of pastries for Breakfast but she would do that once or twice a month. I on the other hand would eat 3-4 pastries everyday if they were available. She works out, walks daily, has an active lifestyle and enjoys everything in moderation. In other words, she works hard to maintain her well sculpted body. I only worked hard at stuffing gobs of food in my body.

There is a difference between naturally thin people and thin people who work at it. "Naturally thin" people don't have to exercise or think about what they eat, they can eat anything and stay skinny. I know people like this. They definately don't exercise or care about what they eat.

Yeah, I know of some naturally thin people who eat copious amounts of Junk foods, drink sodas on a daily basis, don't think or care about calories, fat, carbs, etc, Never exercise and yet never go above a size 2 or size 4. Ugh. I wish. ????????

I know people like that. I know they can't help it, that's just the way nature made them....but I can't help but hate them a little LOL

I know 1 naturally skinny person my grandad he can eat litteraly anything drinks 2-3 regular Pepsi every day but he at the age of 77 still gets up at 4 am and goes to work in construction

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
