Stop eating junk food. Why on earth would you do that? You had major surgery to try to help you get healthy - not just to lose weight and still eat total crap... time to get your head on straight, because this will hurt your health if you continue this path!!

Losing weight because you are basically starving yourself is going to have serious consequences - you'll lose your hair, your skin and nails will look awful and you're going to be exhausted and have major Vitamin deficiency. You're losing muscle mass as well without enough Protein and other food building blocks.

Proteins like fish, chicken, eggs, low fat dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, skim milk). Then healthy veggies - avocado, Beans, green leafy stuff, broccoli/cauliflower, squash... there are TONS of things to eat that are good and good for you.

Health fats if there is any room: cook with coconut oil, olive oil, try guacamole, hummus... light mayo can be added to some canned chicken or tuna (and I add in green onion and some spices) for an easy and Protein packed meal.

Try to eat something like a boiled or scrambled egg with a little shredded cheese on it for Breakfast. Drink a glass of milk or have a container of (low sugar - maybe try greek) yogurt an hour or so later. Fix a bunch of chicken breasts (using spices and citrus) so you don't have to think when it's time for a meal - have one of those with some veggies. Anything is better than what you're doing!

What is your doctor/nutritionist saying about your horrible diet so far? Because they should be really, really concerned and trying to give you better menu plans to work with... otherwise start looking on here and online for decent sleeve menu/recipes ASAP.

In addition, when your honeymoon period is over, if you haven't developed better eating habits you are going to gain it all back. Get cracking!!

I am not sure what your standard is for a "full meal". At 21 months my limit is 2 ounces of Protein, like meat or 2 scrambled eggs and a few bites of vegetables. My policy is to not eat anything made in a factory. That stuff may be a constructed edible, but it is not fuel for your body. If this is a genuine post and not one of those jokers we get once in awhile, I agree that you should be contacting your bariatric team for support and information.

No one can strap you down and make you eat wholesome nutritious food. It's all on you to make your surgery work. If you are losing weight eating that way, my guess is that you are losing muscle and not fat. I hope you can get some effective help from your team. I wish you the best.

The short answer to your question is yes, if you don't eat the right foods you will get sick.

You know exactly what you should be eating based on your original post so the big question is, why aren't you doing it?

@@tamila0624 did you receive post op eating guidelines? Over the long haul, eating correctly not only brings good health it also manages hunger. At some point you are going to experience hunger and a larger eating capacity. The whole idea is you learn how to eat correctly so you minimize hunger and don't have regain.

Was wondering the same. If you ever expect to get down full size meals that's not going to happen. I eat 3 oz of meat and a few bites of something else.

What is YOUR definition for a "full meal?"

For me, the definition of a "full meal" changed after surgery....in a big way. Now, 10 months post-op, my meal size (NOT serving size) is somewhere between 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup TOTAL depending on the meal. My dinners typically include about 2-3 oz. of Protein and a couple bites of veggies. Breakfast and lunch vary in foods, but still fall in the amounts mentioned above.

candy, ICE CREAM AND CAKE?!! Sorry...didn't mean to yell, but WTH?! Yes, get rid of those things. You need Protein and veges. You should not have room for those other things I just typed in all CAPS. Are you kidding?!!

You really need to make Protein a priority. If you are not getting enough protein your body will start breaking down muscle and when it runs out of muscles, it'll go for your organs next in a last ditch to keep you alive. Protein is super super I cannot say it enough SUPER important!! As for the other crap, just don't do that to yourself. It's an addiction, I get that, I'm an addict to sugar too, but please don't do this to yourself. You deserve better.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
