Eat! You'll be fine. Welcome to your new normal.

Just take it slow and try one new food at a time. As you are able to tolerate more foods you will be able to expand your choices. Before you know it you will be at a new "normal".

Just take it slow, focus on getting in all your Protein and Water and you will be fine.

I too was scared - especially after my first "throw up." Just remember...

listen to your body.

---When I eat too fast - I burp a lot (gasy...is that a word?)

---when my food bites are too big, I get pain in my shoulders.

Learn from what your body is doing each time you eat something new.

Mantra - slow slow slow....

It helps.

Just take it slowly and listen to your body. It is a learning process for sure, and it's pretty all-consuming in those first weeks and even months. I remember around 6 weeks or so starting to really get my energy back and start to feel like myself again. But in all honesty I don't think I was fully "healed" internally until about 7 months or so. Then I found that foods that bothered me at the beginning stages didn't bother me at all. Hang in there! The first month or so is really about getting by.

food is definitely not your enemy. You just have to redefine your relationship with each other.

Try one thing at a time, slowly, and give your tummy time to react to it and then send the message back to your brain. Listen to your body.

Eventually it'll be old hat, before you know it even. ????. It's different, but really not so much. The beauty of it is after surgery, your body starts to work with you, as opposed to against you. Once you're in sync it's great.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
