How long are some of you taking off work? I start my liquid diet 2 days before surgery which is scheduled 10/30. Do most surgeons require the 2 week liquid diet? Mine use to but doesn't anymore. He put me on a low carb diet that I start about 2 weeks from surgery date. ..then only liquids 2 days before.

Consider yourself lucky! Lol. I am on two weeks of Bariatric Advantage. It is not horrible. I think each program is so different. Did the dr give the reason for changing the diet? My surgeon does it for liver shrinkage.

@@scubav85 I am taking a week off of work. So I'll have about 10 days after surgery to rest. I have a desk job and can get up and walk around when I need to.

I have a very physically demanding job so took 2 weeks off.

The surgeon said most other surgeons are starting to do away with the 2 week liquid diet because they get the same results on liver shrinkage if the patient is on a low carb diet with only 2 days of liquid only before surgery. He gave me a list of the only foods I can eat for about 2 weeks. No breads, sugar free, lots of veggies and baked or grilled meat

Start my pre-op liquid diet today....2 more weeks left...

I started my liquid diet today also. RNY on the 23rd, how are feeling tonight? How many shakes are you supposed to be drinking?
I'm suppose to drink 4 1/2 shakes a day. Yesterday I only managed to drink three and so far today I've only drank two. They aren't sitting well with my stomach. Honestly I feel horrible lol. But I can have unlimited broth so that's been helping. How are you doing?

@@dede0314 I am supposed to drink 5 a day. I also only got in 3. It's a lot harder than you think it will be. Only 2 days in and I feel like if I drink another one it will come right back up. It leaves a horrible taste in your mouth. I'm getting some sugar free hard candy today. I don't know if it is allowed or not but I think it is necessary lol. I can also have broth and the only I have tried so far is the Unjury chicken broth, not my favorite either. The taste is so strong, like overpowering. What kind of broth have you had? I also have a really bad headache and I've been a bit snappy. I do hope this improves and I also hope that you feel better soon. We can do this but it's not gonna be fun or easy. Lol

I'm afraid I will be more than snappy! A raving maniac will better describe me. I'm looking forward to it though which sounds crazy, but I want to get to the other side! Hang in there. Maybe try some canned broth from the store and mix a little of the Protein Powder in. It's clear liquid so it should be ok. If you think nothin don't. Miso sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hi everyone!! Surgery went better than expected!! The hardest part was not getting any sleep the night before surgery, & only 2 hrs. at the hospital. Very tired. My first sips of Water & Protein mix made me a little nauseous in the hospital, but other than that I did really well. Got home yesterday afternoon feeling really good but very tired. The hard part is drinking Water & your Protein mix. They gave me 5 -1oz cups to put my protein & water in. Drinking 2 of protein mix & 3 waters to be finished in 1 hour. Then I walk after I have those down around the house. Your time is spent sip sip sip you can't take the whole 1 oz at one time, thats what makes it so time consuming, you have to wait a couple of minutes to take the next sip. then walk take Vitamins pills etc. I don't know how anybody could work or take care of other's during this 2 week time. My incision's are very minimal with no pain. My stomach slight pain, but I put a heating pad (not too hot) on it & it helped. One thing I did that didn't feel so good, I took pain meds when I went to bed last night. You can have 1or 2, so I thought I need sleep terribly & I took 2, one at a time, I waited 5 min. to take the 2nd one. I felt like they both got stuck for good 2 hrs. but it finally went away. They had told me to wait 10min. before taking a second pill, I will know better nextime. Well I better get off here, I have to go sip sip! Take care everyone! I've added the new dates for you who wasn't on the list!! Praying that everyone's surgery turns out as good as mine has!!

@@nervous nana I've just been doing regular broth. I went to Panera bread yesterday and asked for two cups of chicken broth. Got a crazy look but hey it was good. I also plan on making some chicken broth.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
