i have a question goal weighter's...how did you guys make this work? i was banded july of this year. i lost 15 lbs on pre/post op diet. after a month or so, gained most of it back (i had NO restriction). my second fill (about a month ago), i was premenstrual so it was extremely tight. i couldn't hold down solids, as a result, lost the 15lbs again. i am currently at a 15-18 lb weight loss, and my fill has 'given' a little. some days i can barely eat anything... others i can eat almost a normal portion. i never eat more than 5-7 oz. usually i keep it at 4oz. i work out at least 3x/week. it feels crazy. my goal was to loose 30 lbs by now. the scale has not budged for about 3 weeks, however, i feel like i am not ready for a fill...i think i would be too full. i am so frustrated!!! admittedly, i am trying to cut down on sugar (dessert is my favorite) and limit dessert to 1-2/week. i think that was stalling my weight loss. but as far as other foods, i make fairly good choices. very little fried. protien first. i drink Vitamin & Fiber shakes. HELP!!! i don't really know what else to do!

My first question is how much you are exercising, it is key. Also do you track calories? You may be highly surprised at what you drink for calories.

And for the desert, how many calories are you getting in?

I've found exercising five times a week worked for me and when I exercise I exercise HARD - I run. Three times a week is fabulous but its more a maintenance level, you lose better when you do more.

And I think I just relaxed into the whole "my body will do what it wants to when its ready" mentality, there were loooooooong plateaus in there. I just had faith that if I did the right thing over time the weight would come off. Dont panic that you're plateauing out a bit now, its very common after an initial fast loss and you will get going again. But weight just doesnt come off week in week out unless you're super duper dedicated and disciplined with DIETING, something I stank at before and still do.

I figured if I acted like a normal weight person, I eventually would be one. That to me meant eating well, not eating too much but not obsessing over it.

It will work for you, have faith. Just keep plugging away and at the end of a year you wont know yourself.

I selected the initial goal of 149 because that was the top range of the BMI for my weight/height. Now that I am so close I think I will go for another 5-9 pounds. I can't believe I am wearing size 8 and 10. So many people have said I should stop, even my husband but I know I can look better. This is the first time I can get to that perfect weight and I am going for it. After maintaining at 184 for seven months, I started exercising regularly in September and since then have lost 26 pounds, 8 pounds since my last fill on 2/19 which was the tightest one so far and it really jumped started the weight loss for me. That and a big increase in exercise which I know do 4-5 times a week. Working with weights really helps carve off those inches.

What do we do when we hit goal? Has anybody opted to loosen the band so they can eat more but maintain? Robin

Welcome to my ultimate question. Technically I am still 16 pounds over weight but I am really happy with my size right now especially with my upcoming TT. My doc would like me to slow down/stop the weightloss so that I can have a stable weight before/after the TT. I am fairly muscular so I am going to be a little bit heavier anyways. I will decide after I heal from the TT if I want to lose the last bit or just ne happy. I went to my nutritionist who is helping me transition into maintenance. I know a lot of people have stated that they didn't do anything difference but that their weight loss just slowed to a crawl. For me I had to up the calories because I was still losing 2-3 pounds per week with my workout schedule. My fill is still tighter that I would like it to be but I am dealing with it for right now but mainly because I live 6 hours from my doc and don't want to take another day off of work. Good luck and let us know what happens...I am eagerly waiting to hear from more people about life at goal.

I have no intention of having any of my fill removed. When I get to goal, if I keep losing, that will be great. I can't imagine that I will get down much beyond my goal at my age. I can always add a Protein Shake or something, if too much weight loss is a problem. I seriously doubt that will happen.

I agree with the weight training. I love feeling muscles in my legs. Still working on the arms though.

Personally, I needed my fill out to stop losing weight. I am an odd bird though, and my surgeon has never seen or heard of this happening before. I put it down to the way I eat and exercise, and also down to the fact that I never maintained a tight fill.

Most people need to maintain most, if not all of their fill to maintain their weight.

I am thinking that I am going to have an unfill before my TT so that I don't have to worry about it getting too tight while under the stress of surgery and I am going to see if I can maintain without it. I like you don't keep my fill very tight. In fact after a slight fill and then 2 weeks later an partial unfill, I still am tighter than I would like. My doc thinks that I was going to have to have a partial unfill to maintain anyways. I have 2 years worth of fills as part of my self-pay program so I figure if I start gaining then I go get another fill. Right now I just wish that I lived closer so that I could have some of this one taken out!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
