What Are Your Hobbies?

Recommended Posts

food was once our hobby but now that is gone and we must find new ways to occupy our time and minds. So what if any hobbies do you currently have? It can be anything from arts and crafts to exercising. Anything you can think of. Share pictures if you like. My hobbies are collecting comics and vintage toys but the main thing I am focused on is my art. I draw, write, sculpt and even sew. Currently I am working on self publishing my own graphic novel. 11987083_705522512924412_254891494980751 11986582_712698322206831_205878162604326168712_1859546891177_7457416_n.jpg?oh=29

food was never ever a hobby of mine!

I love travelling and I am lucky to have at least a good couple of holidays a year. South of France in June this year and Cuba in November. Next year, the only one booked yet is a 3 week ride across Alberta and BC on a bike. Believe me I am NOT looking forward to being on a bike, Canada yes, bike ~ NO.

I like to be with family and friends, read, swim, hike, do gardening. I don't have much time for anything else.

Good question! I've actually been thinking about this a lot. food was my companion, my comfort, etc.. .I'm 5 weeks post op and have been thinking it's time to add something. I have a guitar which I have tried to learn for the past 5 years. LOL! It hurts! Apparently, it becomes fun after a while. Something small & silly. .I was going to buy a puzzle and work on that. I guess those are my hobbies. One day I'll say "mountain biking with my son"!!

Grilling was a hobby for the past few years.

Seldom do it these days.

The gym will be a new hobby very soon.

I'm getting back into shooting sports now.

The one thing that I've loved doing since surgery is answering questions on this forum.

And making Youtube videos, trying to help those that are as nervous and unsure as I was pre-op.

I tried my hand at blogging about my adventure, but my life got really boring and normal very quickly.

So I ran out of stuff to blog about. :-( http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018-gastric-sleeve-surgery-an-unexpected-journey

So now I'm trying my hand at writing books. :-)

Coloring mandalas. It's relaxing. Listening to podcasts. Reading. A coworker introduced me to letterboxing. Going to listen to bands. Going to the movies.

My hobbies are coloring, loom knitting, dancing and playing board games with my family. I want to start painting but I haven't taken the time to go get supplies.

food was never a hobby for me. It was more comfort and protection.

My hobbies include:

Golf

Traveling - golf vacations across the country

Quilting

Reading

Listing to Audio books

Since my surgery, I've added exercise as a hobby and also searching for healthy recipes and then preparing it.

I guess I did make food a hobby now.

Tennis and hiking. Why, you ask? Because they stuck with me even when I was over 300 lbs! Everything else I need to slowly become reattached to.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
