so i was looking to introduce Protein Shakes into my diet before my pre-op liquid phase because the nut wants me to get 60-80 grams a day and i went to the GNC website today and looked into a membership and its 15 bucks for the whole year one that is amazing because not only do they give you half off on whey Protein but on like Vitamins and suplaments and all sorts of good stuff. so i also ordered a tub of 100% whey protein in chocolate 2 pounds for 24 dollars yay

@ - did they have whey isolate Protein for $24 for a 2lb container? that's what I was told to drink. I have bought whey Protein for around $24 at Walmart.< /p>

they have it for 40 for a 2lbs tub i just got the regular whey protein

I walked out on them a few months ago because they wanted to charge the $15 "membership" fee to get basic retail price that I could get from the manufacturer (or Amazon) rather than their inflated marked up price. I have found that Vitamin Shoppe charges about the same as GNC's "membership" prices without the added fee or the mark up games.

I have to second this. I was going to Vitamin Shoppe. They have a membership card, but it's one of those free ones like the supermarkets. In the 6 mth I used them I received exactly 1 coupon. GNC on the other hand gives rewards constantly and their prices a slightly cheaper than Vitamin Shoppe.

@ - There are a million different varieties and brand that make whey Protein isolate at all price points. The brand I buy comes in 4lb containers (Isopure) for about $40 which is actually cheaper than what the evil empire (Walmart) is selling. However I'm sure if you looked around they likely have other brands that come in 2 lb containers. Syntrax nectar is sold there which I believe comes in 2lb containers.

@ - I was told to look for whey isolate and not whey concentrate. Isolates are more potent than concentrates.

@@BLERDgirl - where do you buy the Isopure? I thought the Unjury was a bit pricey but I do like the unflavored stuff. I just wish they sold it in larger containers. I think a lot don't realize the difference between whey isolate Protein and the whey protein. I would rather pay more and get the whey isolate as you know there is a big difference and that's why I actually responded. The evil empire is convenient for most and if you are out, you have to "dance with the devil in the pale moonlight". I think a lot of people don't think about the "isolate" being a big deal.

I buy it from GNC. You can shop them in store or online. If you have the membership card, the deals are valid with both instore and online purchases. You can also buy Isopure from Amazon. GNC will accept any returns of unused product with a valid receipt. If Walmart was my only store I'd shop online. They are vile.

I second the Walmart is vile plus I looked at the price difference for members at GNC and Walmart and I'm sticking with gnc

I commend GNC for fighting hard for quality Protein powder:

One of the problems with Walmarts is they amount of Protein claimed is not absorb-able.

I just went today and got a couple boxes of Quest bars. Also they sent me a $10 off coupon for my birthday if I spend more than $10. I have saved a lot since having my card.

I just got the 100% whey chocolate supreme from there and I love it. It's a little thick but 1.5 hours after my first shake and still not hungry

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
