Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Recommended Posts

I have a happy update that will hopefully encourage you! After about 3 weeks of no weight loss, I did my Friday weigh in and have lost another 4 lbs in a week. Finally!!! And it didn't matter what I did. I tried everything. It was just time. Keep doing what you are doing and it will end... Until the next one!!!

@395Ron. . Sorry for the super late response but I am right in the middle of opening my own business and that has been all consuming for me. In answer to your question about my son Seth....he is 13, 5'6" and 230 pounds. I started him with a nutritionist a month and a half ago and at his 2nd visit two weeks ago he had lost 6 pounds. The nutritionist says that losing is not the huge goal but not gaining is! He should be around 6'2 so if he could grow into his weight that would be great. He is doing really good so time will tell!

Great news about your weight loss. Way to go!! Did you ever address the tremors with your doc and if you did what did they say?

Kevin is doing awesome and heading back to work on monday!

@@edie091371 completely understand. Sounds like you are an excellent mother.

I have an appointment with a neurologist about the tremors, some memory issues, and the right side of my thigh being completely numb, but it is not until January 8th. The first neurologist I tried couldn't get me in until March ugh.

Great news about Kevin.

So I weigh in once a week and today was my first weigh in that I didn't lose anything. I didnt gain either so I'm happy. I stayed the same exact weight to the ounce. Maybe this is my first stall and I'm 6 weeks post op, all I know is I'm not going to worry because the scale doesn't define my journey and the scale can't take away the fact that I'm down 3 pant sizes! I really hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday!

For the most part I've only had negativity from one sister. Not many people know about my sleeve. She knows and can be insensitive to people's feelings but unfortunately that's her personality. I don't really see my weight loss. My husband has noticed and says he can tell when he hugs me. I don't even know what to expect if I lose 100-150 pounds lol.

Maybe you're wife will say you've disappeared when you lose that 100-150lbs lol.

@@s0rda I am sorry your sister is like that. It has got to be tough.

I don't know if I will be able to lose that much but I already expect people to say "Whoa you are losing too much." People are used to me being 403 lbs. Losing 100 lbs would make a huge difference in the way I look and the 90 lbs I have lost already has. If I were to lose the 250 lbs that would put me at 22% BMI but would be a MASSIVE change in my appearance. It would not surprise me if I lose 150 lbs for someone to start saying "You are losing too much, you look unhealthy." My reply would be I am letting my doctor decide when it is too much.

I think when it comes to my sister i just have to remember she is just programmed that way. I've lost 76lbs but I don't see the difference. The proof is is my clothing I'm down 3 pant sizes. I imagine some jealousy will come out when we lose that much weight. We will look very different. I've always been overweight and the only one out of all my sisters as long as I have 1 that supports me I'm fine and can get thru any negativity from the other 4.

I agree completely with the doctor having the say in our weight. I can't wait to lose that 100-150 pounds and be healtier.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
