Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

Recommended Posts

Surgery was Monday at 12:45. Thankfully I didn't seem to have any problem with anaesthesia, I was out within minutes of being in the operating room, they also gave me some Versed before with calmed me down. The first night and the next day were pretty rough, I had lots of nausea and needed lots of IV nausea medication, they did give me a patch before surgery but that wasn't cutting it. My doc though part of my problem might have been because of the PCA with hydromorphone, so we stopped that I went to liquid pain medication. Earlier today he said I was okay to go home. Just wish it wasn't so hard to get ahold of liquid pain medication at the outpatient pharmacies.

Glad your ok!!! Some people have a hard time with pain medication, I can't take certain kinds. Hopefully it will be better now that you are at home!

I completely get where you're coming from. If I take a pill, it feels like it's caught in my throat for hours and then it makes my stomach upset with nausea. Everyone is different but I'm finding once the gas begins to clear, the pain meds aren't that necessary. I don't know if this is what others are experiencing but if so, there is light at the end of the tunnel for you! Pain meds (pain) is very short-lived. Best of luck! I hope you feel better soon. Xo

Hi all!

I had my gastric bypass on Monday and got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Slight kink at the beginning. My endocrinologist had lowered my diabetes medications too low and I had high blood sugar.. My doctor was going to postpone, but the anesthesiologist said he could work with it. You know, I was about in tears because I had followed every instruction to the letter.

Anyway, I did have the gastric bypass. I had very little pain and was able to give myself morphine for the pain I did have. They also gave me emend before surgery to help with the nausea and the patch behind my ear. They gave me more meds through the IV because I have such a problem with nausea. That took care of pain and nausea!

The only real pain I had was from gas. I am still working on getting rid of that lol.

I had problems with high blood sugars and high blood pressure during both my surgery and my stay at the hospital. The doctor told me that as time goes on, I will eventually be taken off those medications.

I am trying to get down 4 oz liquid and 2 oz Protein an hour. Am currently having my 'breakfast' of meds and Vitamins, etc. ha ha. I have four chewables and 3 crushed and mixed with unsweetened applesauce.

Am doing well - walking a little bit every hour and sipping the rest of the time.

Oh, one of things that would have made my stay at the hospital better is a saline nasal spray. My nose got so dry all I could do was blow out dried blood.

Anyway, that is my experience so far.

oh, and one more thing - I got on the scale when I got home - had gained 7 lbs lol - this morning 4 of them were gone. I suspect it was because of all those IV fluids they pumped into me.

@@TristanNicole I stopped taking the liquid pain medication before I went home. Couldn't stand the taste, but once the gas started moving, the pain was bearable. I'm one week post op today and the pain gets better and better. Im looking forward to next Thursday when I go back for my 2 week check up and hopefully can add more foods. Good luck to you.

I agree with the saline nasal spray! I'm still blowing my bloody nose. It's nice to be home though isn't it? I'm finding it impossible to get those Protein Shakes in. I had 2/3 of one yesterday. I won't panic though because as you said it will take us time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
