Don't want to eat

Recommended Posts

It been 2months that I've been sleeved, and I just don't feel right. I'm sure it's not a big problem but it bothers me. I've lost 22 surgery pounds,36 pretty surgery. My problem is I just don't want to eat, it's to much work. You get all that fixing and prep done and after 2 or 3oz your done. Now you get to eat the rest of that food all week. I'm eating healthy but finding it hard to choose to eat or drink. I work in food service do we have to leave our department to drink, I manage about 8 oz at work. One break, half hour lunch, food or liquid? When I'm hungry my stomach feels nauseous and bloated. While I eat I can feel the fullness come, by the time I get back to my dept I feel like I'm hungry again. Bloated nauseous. I can't tell if I'm hungry or full. I eat small meals. 1/4 cup egg for Breakfast slim fast for break(drank over a couple hours) lunch 2oz turkey, some veggie, and I'm done. Break 1/2 cheese stick. dinner mostly chicken and veg. I don't want to feel blah everytime I eat. I used to live to eat now I have to eat to live. I don't enjoy it at all. Any tips. Thank.

Sounds perfectly normal. That is the intent of the surgery, to learn to eat to live rather than live to eat. You will find so many more enjoyable activities!

You will enjoy food again. I am a foodie so have re-created all my old, fattening favs to fit my healthier way of eating.

As far as your job, that is a tough one. You need more than 8 oz. of liquid during your shift. Are you able to slip away for a second or 2 more frequently for quick sips? That could add up to more liquid intake. Try speaking with your supervisor to explain why you need to have time to sip more liquids. Slim fast shakes have more carbs/calories than my NUT recommends. My NUT recommends EAS AdvantEdge RTD shakes, nectar, Designer whey, etc.... You want a 3:1 protein:carb ratio.

You will find what works for you, you are only beginning your journey.

I asked my Dr to write a note for work but he explained it is not temporary and I will have to figure this out forever. My boss try to over look my "ileagle" activity. But there are 30 other people in my dept. Do he does his best to be fair. Slim fast is high in carbs I've tried many the gag factor is the final choice. Lol I'm sure this will get better.

Thank for your help.

That's why I like EAS AdvantEdge rtd, the others are all thick and gross to me. You will figure out what works for you, we all had some kind of challenge while figuring things out. It will get better/easier

My doc said the sleeve removes that portion of your stomach that generates the hunger hormone, which naturally decreases your appetite. He also provided the website wlsvitamins.com - it's specifically for people who have had weight loss surgery - they have shakes, hot/cold drinks, broth, Soups - all without added sugar and all with the recommended serving of Protein that your body can process (15g). Maybe it will help you get in your fluids rather than the slim fast shakes (which my doc said was on the "no" list - but all docs are different). I'd also recommend you check out some Atkins recipes. If you're following a strict post-sleeve diet you'll find it mirrors the older Atkins diet - Stage 1 or 2 (not the newer ones with all the prepared shakes, bars and frozen foods), so if you haven't done so, search the web or Pinterest for their recipes. Take time and prepare something you really like; chicken can get really boring and protein prepared without herbs or spices can be pretty bland. Something as simple as adding a pinch of Herbs de Provence will make you appreciate your few bites of egg - or fresh cilantro pressed on a piece of fresh tuna will kick it up a notch (1 cilantro root smashed up will add flavor to fish or veg broth - braise white fish in it for a protein-rich meal); tuna tataki is great, too - and it's normally a small serving, so it's a perfect size for lunch or dinner. Good luck.

I would change from slim fast. It's too many carbs & not enough to Protein. I would opt for a power Protein Drink for either lunch or dinner. Simply add a quarter cup of yogurt to your protein drink. It will give you more fluids as well as increase your protein. Use the other time for drinking Water. Make sure you eat good meals at home. I kept my meals interesting by preparing them in mini ramekins that I could heat & eat. Switch up with sauces and spices. Keep water bottles with you everywhere. Sip in the car or where ever else you can. It's important to hit those protein & fluid goals.< /p>

Like others have said, drop the slim fast shake and get a better shake with higher Protein and fewer carbs.

I know a lot of WLS patients eat eggs, but eggs are so hard for me to eat scrabbled. They have to be over easy. Turkey lunch meat also isn't that filling or satisfying. Why not try some different things? I have a lot of fish in my diet, and I use a variety of Protein shakes. I also suggest Syntrax Nectars since they a like Water so you can drink them easily and get your Protein in.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
