that if you try foods that did not work out in the beginning of your post op or even before surgery, they might work out for you down the road.

For me the incredible edible egg was an item that I absolutely loved before surgery. Then I did something stupid, I puréed a hard boiled egg with some light mayo in the puréed stage. First, I think the smell of that purred egg salad made me gag, then I ate a tiny bit of it and that was it. I could stand the smell of eggs or even the sight of them unless they were used in cooking.

I tried every couple of weeks in all different ways, omelettes, fried, poached, scrambled and every time that smell and taste gagged me and the egg felt like lead in my pouch. So I have avoided them for about 4 months now.

Yesterday I had a CRAVING for eggs! I was terrified to try them but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted them. I started by making cottage cheese pancakes which has 3 eggs, a cup of cottage cheese and 1/3 c. Of flour. They are very eggie. I loved them!

Today I decided I would try a Mexican omelet for lunch. I figured if I used taco meat which I love, cheese and tomatoes. It just might work. Guess what they smelled fabulous and they feel great in my tummy. Now, I made a 2 egg omelet and split it with my hubby and still could not eat my half. I felt short by a few bites.

I am looking forward to poached eggs next!

Woo how! I got my incredible edible egg back! More Protein options!

The moral of the story is, don't give up on those things that you did not like in the beginning. Your system may come around yet!

I agree - if at first you don't succeed, try, try, again.

At first I could not tolerate raw veggies or fruit. I craved a salad and every time I tried, I would be doubled over in pain. Cherries would taste so good, then 20 minutes later I would be cursing them!

At about the 15 month mark I was finally able to tolerate a basic salad - romaine lettuce and some cherry Tomato. I was in heaven. I also now know that I can have 3-5 cherries and I feel OK. Any more than that and I run into trouble. I know I can eat a little bit of raw veggie and be OK. Spinach is still on my no-no list, almost two years out.

When I was allowed to start regular foods at four weeks, I had some steamed cauliflower with cheese. Miss Tummy punished me for hours. I tried it again at six months and was fine.

I agree!! This just happened to me this week too. I have tried steak several times post sleeve and could not tolerate it or any other red meat. Then, this week I cooked a steak and ate it just fine. It tasted great!!

Glad you can tolerate the eggs now. Eggs are an awesome food. Enjoy!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
