Stomach Biopsy Questions

Recommended Posts

I'm having my pre op stomach biopsy tomorrow. They're sedating me. Have NO idea what to expect.

How long does it take?

How soon do the drugs wear off?

Is it painful afterwards?

Do you remember it?

Yes, I'm a chicken.

It was about an hour from the time they rolled me in until I remember being back in the room. I don't remember anything after counting down from 10. No pain at all, although I hear some people have a slightly sore throat. I walked out on my own about 30 minutes later... But was tired and slept a lot the rest of the day.

No pain, was knocked out the entire time.

In and out before you know it

I didn't even have a sore throat.

I drank Water immediately after I was back in my room.

Had mine today. Asked my doc if it was going to suck and he said, no you're just going to take a nap.

Passed out pretty quickly but woke up while they were still pulling the tube from my stomach.

I gagged and choked over and over. It was awful. I was fully awake and vomited the bile and small bit of Water that was in my stomach. Hurt my throat.

As they began wheeling me out to recovery I told my doc that he'd lied; it sucked balls.

But hey, I got through it. Next week surgery. Hooray!

Are you talking about the endoscopy? I had it done twice, and both times I went in, the hooked me up to the IVs, rolled me into the room, had me lie on my side, and the next thing I knew I woke up in the recovery room. They released me to my ride home, and I was a little loopy, but that was it. No pain, no nothing. Simple, in and out.

Yep. That's how mine was except I awoke with scope still in my stomach and it was not fun coming up, but hey if that's the worst that happens in this whole process I'll count myself lucky.

Hmmm.. Good question! This is something I guess is optional kinda like the upper GI I had to do for my doctor, I haven't had to do this and as far as I know I won't have to! But one things for sure is I believe I would have rather done the biopsy, that shake they have you drink for the upper GI is nasty!!

I also woke up as they were pulling the tube they put down your throat but mine was for a different surgery years ago. I don't know why they don't make sure you are still asleep when they do that. I will definitely be telling the doctor to not wake me up until it's out this time.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
