ready to give up

I am so darn frusrated with this band. I am almost four months out and I am not losing a thing. I have had one fill of 1 1/4cc and I don't even feel like there is a band there most of the time. I don't have to chew well, nothing disagrees with me. I am hungery and able to eat whatever I want. I am to go for an endoscopy the 13th the nurse thinks my band could have slipped. The problem is I have to travel 3 hours each way to the Dr. and have very high co-pays each time. The nurse mentioned switching to rny but my family will not support me emotionally if I make that dicision. Is there any hope that this is going to get better and have some possitve results. I did lose during the pre-op diet and the liquid stage but nothing since I have gained 4lbs. Need to know the truth if that is all there is going to be with this thing.

There is hope. You sound like you need a good solid fill and good restriction. Talk to you doctor about it when you go in.

The vast majority of people don't feel restriction until their second or third fill. It doesn't sound like you have any symptoms of a slip. You just clearly need a fill. Maybe two. It's not time to give up yet, you're just not using your tool yet.

I had 5 cc's in my first fill and am only just barely starting to feel restriction. If you had a 1/4 cc, I can't imagine it was even worth the effort! It will definitely get better the more fills you have.

I didn't feel any restriction until I got 2.5 in my 4cc band. Do you know what size band you have?

Four months and only 1 1/4 cc? I agree with the rest, you most likely need more fill. From what my surgeon told me of slip symptoms, it doesn't sound like a slip at all.

xray chic, your band most likely has not slipped. I am shocked that the nurse would tell you such a thing. You barely have any saline in your band thus you can eat everything. When you get it checked out I would go back in for a fill immediately. If one doesn't work then go back again. It took me 5 to feel good restriction. Your band is fine. It is just not working properly because you are not filled enough. Julie

Thanks for the responces. I feel the same. I have a 4cc band and 1.04cc in it. The nurse was very short with me and rny was her responce to my saying it doesn't feel like there is anything even there, and I haven't loss anything since post-op. I'll be going for the endo the 13th, and I see the Dr again on the 24th hopefully than I'll get a good fill.

I've had about 5 fills and It really took until I was up to 4.5 cc's in a 10 cc band that I could feel restricted. You should feel a tiny restriction by just having the band but I think 4 months in, you should of had a lot more fills. When you hit that right amount of injection, thats when the weight starts pouring off. I'd get an appt asap.

xraychic,

My aunt just got the 4cc band on May 1st, she is a little over 9 weeks out and has just had her second fill (1 cc first time - no restriction at all; 1 cc the second time) so she is at 2 cc in her band and is just now starting to feel restriction with solids.

I have an 11 cc band and have had 5 fills (to 9.5 cc) and have pretty good restriction. It varies quite a bit per person.

Don't let this nurse bully you, make them work with you and your band! If she is rude to you, complain to the doc or office manager, that is unacceptable on her part. You went through a lot to get this band, it is only fair to you and your family that your doctors office help you utilize it to the fullest extent. Push for another fill; if they are RNY advocates, you may have to work a little harder or be more firm, but they should be there to help and support you on your journey!

Good luck!

X-Ray chic which nurse was it who was rude to you? You need to tell Dr Singh your experience

My surgery was 3/21 and I've only lost about 18lbs since the surgery. I had a 1cc fill last month, and am hoping for another CC on the 19th.

When he filled you up completely did you feel anything? I didn't and I worry that because of that I'll never feel any restriction, but only time will tell!

I'm here if you want to talk

x-ray chic: the nurse who is recommending RNY is obviously not that educated on the WLS subject. She is human and not the authority.

I HOWLED and I mean HOWLED at my docs office for my first fill... I flat out told him that I had eaten half a of a large pizza the friday before and that I needed a FILL.... so he gave me 1.5cc on my first go round. I had a little bit of restriction for about a week and then it was back down again. I just had my 2nd fill and he gave me 1.25cc's (my band holds 4cc) I am just NOW with 2.75 cc's in my band actually feeling what others have talked about.....

This is how I gauged it: pre-band I could eat 4 plates of food at a buffet, after fill #1 I could eat 1 full plate. TODAY I am eating 1/2 plate or less... I am really hoping for a loss this week. I am ready to lose, so I am making better choices as well.

i'm due for surgery on tuesday. i'm totally obsessing over these boards to make sure i'm doing the right thing. i have one question -- well actually i have many questions -- but right now i am confused about a fill and/or a restriction. doesn't a fill give you a "restriction"? or am i not understanding the definition of these terms?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
