Of all the post-op medical issues I could have, panic attacks were not on my list. I had surgery a week ago yesterday, and I've woken up in the middle of the night twice feeling panicky. I'm not sure what to make of this. I don't feel stressed out, although I probably am. I have had an excellent recovery, not on any meds, and having no problems with the stage 2 diet. Maybe it's the shift in hormones? I'm not back on my birth control yet, which I used to deal with hormonal issues. Maybe that, combined with stress, eating changes, and losing weight quickly might cause it?

I too had panic attacks shortly after surgery even with anxiety meds! Some of it was unknown of what life will be like 100 pounds lighter and the possibility of failure after such a huge decision. It gets better.

Oh my God, I had a panic attack 2 nights ago and was like what the heck was that!! Never had it before, took 4 puffs of my rescue inhaler and it helped. I chucked it up to being 9 days post-op, hormones, pain, and pure tiredness. Being just recently had surgery as a nurse I know that the body becomes naturally stressed as its trying to heal and repair itself. I'm just praying it doesn't happen again

This is probably different, but on my 2nd day after surgery, I had 2 random crying fits. I was fine, I wasn't thinking about changes, the pain, or missing food. I guess it would be better to say I was "weepy". They gave me lorazepam which helped. I was mostly embarrassed because I couldn't stop, and was afraid the residents and nurses were thinking I'm crazy! It felt similar to a mood swing I once had will on the pill. Hang in there! This was a major surgery for your body!!

I spoke to the bariatric nurse and she said most people underestimate the emotional changes that accompany surgery. She said what I was feeling was normal. I decided to start getting out more to see friends and get outside in the sunlight. That helped a lot. I think part of this was that I was stuck at home alone. I haven't had a panic attack in a week. I think I'm through it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
