Today is the first day of my liquid diet. My surgery is scheduled 8/17/15. I haven't even made it thru one entire day and I feel like giving up already. I need some good advice please ... Thanks guys !!!

Just drink one meal at a time. Don't look at it as a whole. One meal at a time. Stay away from being around food as much as you can. The third or fourth days are the worst. Then after that it seems to get easier.

This gives you a great start to the process of WLS. The shrinking of your liver makes it easier for them to do the surgery and gives you a better chance of success.

Hang in there, you can do it! Not easy but it does get easier! Think of the end prize! The sleeve is one of the best decisions I have ever made!

I agree with RJ. It gets easier and honestly by day 4 your hunger drops off tremendously.

You got this. One drink at a time.

Yes I agree that the hunger drops significantly! I am on a 3 week liquid pre-op diet, today marks the beginning of the second week. However even with my doctor calling it a liquid diet I am allowed vegetables. Even when I go to snack on veggies when I'm feeling especially hungry, I don't eat nearly as much as I might have otherwise. A few bites and I'm done now. I am trying to wean down to not needing the veggies at all.

You can do it! It seems so hard at first but it does get easier. Keep your eye on the prize!

I am scheduled for surgery on 08/17 as well! My nutritionist had me start my pre-op diet on Friday. Lucky you! Oh man has it been tough! I'm not going to lie! Today is day 4 and overall it's better. Days 1 and 2 were awful and I cried. My nurse had me do a bucket list of the things I want to do as a skinnier and healthier me and while I was crying to my husband, he had me pull out the list and we went over it. That actually helped. I'm still hungry here and there and crave something to bite into, besides Jello or a popsicle. LOL I do notice that the shakes take away the hunger better now. I have had to take Tylenol twice for headaches, but my biggest issue has been the emotions. I feel like crying when I see people eat. I know this is temporary, so like others have said previously, I'm taking it one shake at a time. I've seriously thought of cheating, but remind myself that this is to help the Doctor be more successful with surgery and that helps a little. Days 1 and 2 are the worst, but it does get better! STAY STRONG! YOU CAN DO THIS! Oh and the plus side is I am down 10 pounds as of this morning!

It will get easier. I am 5 days in to my liquid diet with 2 days to go until surgery. I would say the 1st couple of days were the worst, especially when I had to give up the last of my caffeine . Each day gets easier and this part will be behind you before you know. Good Luck!

I start mine Friday and I'm not even thinking about what food I'll miss yet. I cannot think of what I want one last time before surgery which tells me I'm ready mentally. Now, let's see how I feel come Monday or Tuesday. I have two weddings and a birthday party in the month I will be on liquids only. Should be interesting,

I didn't have to do a pre-op liquid diet, but I'm post-op day 5 on liquids and it's still hell even though I'm not hungry. What's helped me is just reminding myself that it's temporary! A year from now when we've reached goal weight and are able to enjoy a small but healthy and tasty meal, a couple of weeks with fluids will seem like such a small price to pay. We've got this!

The thing I have loved about the liquid diet is that it is showing me that I can eat in a very restricted way without going nuts and keep to the program. That is giving me TONS of confidence that I will be able to do this after the surgery as well. I feel so good about losing 12 pounds in 10 days. I have everything in the house that I will need for the first month after surgery so I feel prepared and hopeful. Now I just have to get through 3 1/2 more days until my surgery day and then get up on my feet and start walking!

Today is day 8 of the pre-op liquid diet and probably my best day both mentally and physically. I notice how the shakes feel me up now. We are strong and we can do this!!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
