Period Pains... what CAN I take?

Recommended Posts

Being that I had surgery at 20 years old I don't take a lot of medicine... or really any at all... except when that time of the month rolls around. So I never asked my surgeon what kind of pain medicine I COULD take as it didn't seem like information I would need. Now as I am 3 months out and enduring my third very painful (normal for me) period, what can I take for the pain??

I've tried googling it and all that comes up is what I can't take... IB Profen, Advil, etc.

And this heating pad is just not cutting it anymore! I need drugs! ;)

My PCP gave me a prescription for Tramadol -- basically only enough for about 3 days per month, but that's all I need. You may want to check with your surgeon and see what your restrictions are with respect to drugs (some say it is okay to take NSAIDs) and recommendations are. Tylenol is generally a good option for sleevers. However, you should be getting medical advice from real doctors, not Dr. Google or Dr. Stranger on a Messageboard, so definitely give your surgeon and/or your PCP a call. Good luck, period pain sucks, I know!

My surgeon said tylenol was fine. Just no ibuprofen or other NSAIDS. I loved my advil before surgery, but the tylenol seems to do fine for me now. Hope this helps.

Tylenol is probably the best thing over the counter!

Thank you! I will give my surgeons office a call tomorrow morning and ask if Tylenol is okay.

Tylenol has worked for me. I sure do miss my 800mg Motrin though :(

Tylenol is the only pain reliever without getting into the hard stuff. Since surgery, it also seems to work so much better as well.

Good luck!

Tylenol is not a NSAID, so it is safe post-WLS. Just take it in tablet or liquid form - not capsules.

tons of Omega 3's helped me somewhat for a while along with the nsaids. unfortunately tylenol never did anything for me for period pain. eventually endometriosis got so bad i was taking post op strength hydrocodone (?) after hysterectomy i needed less pain med immediately post op than on any typical menstrual day!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
