Does everyone's hair fall out?

Recommended Posts

Does every single person experience Hair loss? ? And when?? I've heard around the 3 month mark!? I'm really hoping I don't loose any but it is a small price to pay in the long run I know! I'm at about 6 weeks with no hair loss yet (knock on wood).

No, not everyone. Most.

I don't think so, but if it comes from my back, that would be just fine. No more waxing! Or if I had to shave my face less frequently that would be great too.

No hair loss, have to wax my back, hair is growing back on my lower legs that I think went away when I was really fat and circulation was lost. But the guys in my family all have kept their hair right until the end, so I am genetically blessed there...however we drop dead of heart attacks early. (they also smoked and drank and were very overweight, so breaking some of the tradition).

I've not had any significant loss. Just extra strands here and there. I'm almost 4 months out. I did start Biotin and nioxin conditioner as a preventative measure and to stimulate regrowth.

Mine did not and I'm nine months out as well. I did nothing to help prevent it besides taking my bariatric Vitamins daily. My Vitamins do contain Biotin, so that may have helped.

Mine did -- started during Month Four and was pretty much over by end of Month Nine.

The majority of WLS patients do have hair loss. But it's not life-threatening, nor is it really so noticeable to anyone but us. Women notice it a lot more than men do, because our hair is longer than theirs, and our long strands in the shower are so much more visible than 1/2 inch or 1 inch pieces of hair that slide right on down the drain.

This is not something you should over-worry about.

Truly.

As a hair dresser and huge advocate for nioxin, using the conditioner by itself won't help. U have to use at least step 1&2 together (shampoo and cond.) And I always support the #3 step of a spray for the roots. ;)

Are you still pleased with Nioxin? I used to swear by their products. My sister introduced me to them. She worked for them for about seven years before the owners sold the company to Proctor & Gamble and they liquidated their Atlanta-based plant. She says there was a huge drop in the quality of the products after P&G took over. She actually has a huge stash of old product in her basement that she's using. I've switched to Aquage Sea Extend strengthening Shampoo and conditioner. It's the next best thing I've found, but is definitely not as good as the old Nioxin product! I'm hoping my sister will give me a little of her stock for post-surgery. So just curious, are you still using Nioxin or have you moved on to another brand you like?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
