I am flat out hungry (rant)

Recommended Posts

Speaking as someone who had disordered eating, you can gain without eating big meals. Nibbling or grazing all day will pack on lbs as will only eating one big meal a day if it's the wrong foods.

I would recommend holding off adding any foods/ meals until after you talk to your nutritionist. The liquid phase is only temporary and if you recently had surgery a little fatigue is to be expected. I would also discuss adding a PPI like Prilosec or Zantac because yes, gas does masquerade as hunger.

This is your opportunity to completely change your relationship with food. Listen to your medical team.

I never been an overrated meaning eating large portions, I just chose the wrong foods to consume and never worked out. So in saying that I know when I'm hungry and I'm getting so frustrated with these post telling me I'm not.

Girl, brutal honesty here and NO judgement. I have a hard time believing one could hit 340+ pounds without overeating. Again, no judgement, I myself was the biggest over eater you can imagine.

I'd suggest doing your best to NOT listen to your body. Weigh, measure and track everything. It's easy to nibble, lick, chew, sip an extra 1,000-3,000 calories a day without even realizing it and our bodies/ brains will scream for more despite our best intentions.

This is the time to break that cycle and hit a healthy weight. It's hard, it sucks, it blows, but you CAN do it. If I can, anyone can.

Lipstick lady thanks for your brutal honesty but I must say you are wrong way wrong. I will not be posting a lie on a Bariatrics support site as we all are here for the same purpose and quite frankly what landed you here is not the same reason that got us all here. This is my journey and I want to be as open about MY PROGRESS, MY EMOTIONS AS POSSIBLE. I know me you don't so you are passing judgement in what you think is support. Remember in the future that there is a thin line between your truth and judgement so be careful how you approach. I did not say I went and ate fast food because I was hungry, I did not say I added in Snacks, I did not say I was going to continue to eat what I want, I did not say I was giving up on making my tool work for me. I just simply said I had 5 spoonfuls of a puréed Soup a couple days early so that basically I won't pass out and have some energy to accomplish my day to day task. And it worked for me. To everyone else thanks for the suggestions and recommendations I will try the antacid today but for now the feeling is gone. But again I will be proactive trying to avoid it again because I was honestly fearful behind the way I felt, so much so that I could hardly stand in the shower long enough to wash the soap off. I am not going to go so hard on something that I will allow myself to be harmed in any way or be afraid to leave the house because I'm on the verge of passing out. I live in Vegas where is 110 on any given day so imagine that.

As for the rest of my journey bare in mind that I am still on liquids but I get what you guys are saying about planning meals and measuring, I will definitely do that when I get to that point. I just simply think that my body will be much happier when I can get to that point of nourishment. So again thanks for the support sleevers take care!

I got to 240. I was not an over eater. I was however LAZY

I didn't cook. I ate out. A lot

lunch at work everyday was bought in a cafeteria. Did I choose the salad bar - uh nope - pizza. Albeit 1 slice but still pizza over salad. And it was like $2.00 and a soda $1. And salad was 4.00 a pound.

Breakfast usually an egg sandwich and a coffee.

So no I didn't overeat. I was lazy. I made extremely poor choices.

And there was absolutely no excerciss in my life ever

I would listen to your body. Sounds like the Soup worked for you. We are all different, no cookie cutter approach is going to work. As long as it's safe, do what's best for you without returning to old habits. Hope you feel better soon!

Soup is good. Greek yogurt is good. My surgeon actually considers Greek yogurt a liquid because it's so good for healing.

And still, a PPI is also good. Again, my surgeon's practice prescribes PPI routinely for 6 months post op. That roiling, churning is also stomach acid. Unfortunately, food also calms it down so I'd still follow up about a PPI. I think we were prescribed Prilosec 20mg twice a day.

One of my friends kept having that problem for a few weeks and after being checked out by her surgeon, the fix was simple, he sent her to see the dietician and after 20 min of questions and answers, the dietician put her on 6 small portions per day, now at 6 months out and eating normal foods she carries small Snacks and still eats 6 meals a day, 4 meals and 2 snacks @ 3oz portions, so maybe you should go see your surgeon to rule out anything else and then talk to ur dietician, we are all made and function differently, good luck

I was genuinely hungry for about a month. Then, the hunger gradually went away and now am almost never hungry. When I was at your phase, I started mixing Protein powder with skim milk powder 1/2 and 1/2, to cut that creamy thick texture I was gagging on. That really helped and still do that. Honestly, I miss hunger and feeling hungry but it sure helps me put food on the back burner and other life things up front.

I was hungry on day 8 too and my NUT started me on soft foods at that point. My surgeon's plan moves to lean Protein and either zucchini, summer squash and green Beans on day 10-14 depending on how you are feeling.

I'd ask your NUT.

I felt exactly the same way at around the same time. Someone else suggested that it might be acid and it was! Don't get me wrong...sometimes you are hungry. Make sure you are choosing Protein rich foods. It will get better I promise. I am on my 7 week mark in a few days and I feel less hungry now than I did the first few weeks

Thanks all I really appreciate all your feedback. My Nut not available until monday and I have an appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday so I will be discussing the issue with him. Until then I did go buy the Prevacid and took it for the first time yesterday and I'm not exactly sure it's working lol. But I will continue to take it and fight through this feeling. I have struggled to get my Protein in by shakes so I ordered unjury unflavored to add to Water with crystal light as I was told by the nut before was ok so for now I'm just force feeding myself the Protein Shakes I have. I am glad to report I have not pureed anymore Soup just simply dealing with it until I get the go ahead from the doc. Again thank you all for taking the time out to encourage me it really means alot!

Tiff

@@beuTwithin - I would agree to contact your NUT.

I have occasional days where I THINK I am hungry all day. Other days I have to tell myself to eat something (esp before taking vitamins). I have noticed if I feel that hunger feeling all day that it means I need to get my mind on something - anything - and get away from grabbing the small handful of pretzels, chips, etc. The nibbling will add up and I will catch myself trying to nibble. Drinking Water and waiting to see if that feeling is still there works for me too.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
