1 week post op and starving

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm 1 week post op and I'm starving on the liquids! I had some frozen yogurt last night and some potato Soup today, and a couple bites of a muffin.I' m supposed to be on 3 weeks of liquids but dont know how I can manage. If I didnt have the marks on my tummy I'd wonder if they even did the surgery! I dont understand how I was able to eat any thing. I'm gona do my best to keep on the liquids cause I dont want to hurt any thing but I'm still curious.:)

I'm only a couple days out so I haven't hit that mark. Just please be careful with eating solid foods. I was soooo cautioned against it for the reason of breaking the stitches inside and not letting the stomach heal that I'm actually afraid to put a lot of liquids in right now. Have you tried getting a blender and pureeing some things in it?

I'm just 3 days post-op and I'm still getting quite full on a Jello cup. Sometimes I can only eat 1/2 before I start feeling uncomfortable. I'm getting a bit bored of jello, popsicles, juice and broth but I'll make to Monday when I can start having Soup and cream of wheat (never thought they would sound good).

I wish I could have Jello. My doc says 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, then soft food. UURRGG....I wasn't hungry until today. I am 4 days post-op. And they are telling me 24 more of just liquids. I am really worried that I won't make it.

I wonder why such differences in what the doctor's recommend?

jenf3 - I hear ya', I was hungry the day I got home! It sucks. I am 2 weeks out today - on mushies, transitioning to regular food tomorrow, but I am still hungry all the time. Same symptoms as before surgery, grumbling stomach, low level headache, hot and sweaty. I have tried very hard to stay low carb, but my body seems to be fighting against me as usual. The saving grace is that I can't over eat - I do have a full point now, but I am hungry again in a couple of hours. I hope my fills help with all of this. I am just trying my best to make good choices and limit my portions.

Jello is a clear liquid. Thats what I'm on for the first week and my booklet says Jello is included in week 1 and they gave me jello for both of my meals in the hospital.

glindab - did they specifically tell you no Jell-o? It is considered a clear liquid usually.

Yeah, for some reason, he wasn't it to be warm clear liquids. No Jello, no popsicles. I am thinking I am going to have to add Jello. I did the preop diet of liquids and the jello really helped. My doc is very strict about his post op diet. 2 weeks clear liquids, 2 weeks full liquids. Then pureed foods. UURRGG If i were able to stay on a diet like that, i wouldn't have needed this band.

Crazy, but I was also given jello in the hospital, and then he told me no jello at home. I think I am going to give in today.

My clinic is largely the same

Week 1: clear liquids

Week 2: full liquids

Weeks 3 & 4: pureed food

Weeks 5 & 6: Mashed food

Weeks 7 & 8: Soft foods

Weeks 9 and beyond: Regular foods

bkat -

I think i will follow your plan. Then it would only 2 weeks of liquids before I would get pureed food. I guess the saying it true -- grass always looks greener on the other side.

Thanks for sharing your diet with me.

Hi:

I live in Canada, and I was given Popcicles and Jello in the Hospital. So, I'm sure it would be fine to have these. But ensure you don't have that creme Soups etc until you have healed. You don't want to take the chance of damaging your band.........it's a risk that I'm sure no one would like to take.............becareful!

And yet I am allowed pureed vege Soup, yogurt, custard, second day after surgery. I questioned my surgeon about all the diff diets and he said they have found that as long as it is completely liquid (no lumps or bits) it dosen't make any difference to the risk of band slippage. Interesting huh???

I have to agree with that.... i was told that i can have anything as long as it can be sucked up through a straw... starting to make me worry abit that there is so many different post op diets out there!

It does make you wonder why there are so many different variations of the post-op diet. I have managed so far to do only Clear Liquids again today. But each day is getting harder and harder. Today, i made me french onion Soup. Okay, without the bread, and no cheese, and I strained all the onions out. So basically, i had beef broth, but it tasted good. What ever it takes.

God bless my friends though. We went to watch my friends kids play in the softball championship game earlier - they all would go to the other side of the field to eat their hotdogs & nachos. They would not eat it around me. How sweet. Actually, they were probably afraid i would tackle them for it. LOL

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
