We had surgery the same day I've lost 20 pounds and started at 242. I don't think you should drink beer. I'm going to see nicki Minaj August 2nd and im trying to think if I had one drink what could it be. Maybe vodka? I hate wine now since I had my daughter and I used to be a whino.

My doctor said no alcohol for one year. It's not worth the calories at this point. Maybe after I reach goal I'll change my mind.

I would never think about eating pizza nor drinking beer after the sleeve. That defeats the entire purpose. After spending $16,000.00 on my procedure, I sure would not even dream of eating foods and drinks that got me here in the first place.

I wish doctors would explain the carbonation better so people would realize it is about more than calories and sugar. People think the because they budget the calories and sugar that makes it okay.

The reason you are supposed to avoid carbonation is because the pressure of the carbonation expands your stomach.

If you keep drinking carbonation over time you are going to expand your stomach and lose your restriction. You are going to be able to eat more easier and faster and it is going to contribute to weight regain over time.

If you went through all the pain, money and trouble to get a smaller stomach, don't expand it with carbonation, there are plenty of things to drink with no carbonation.

That rule is not for the sleeve. Only bypass. The sleeve will stretch a little , but will never be the size of your pre surgery stomach. The surgery removed the "stretchy" part of the stomach.

That was the rule I was given for a sleeve, but not strictly to prevent stretching.

The point is, the stomach is going to stretch some naturally with food over time. Why stretch it more with carbonation, when you don't have to? There are so many alternatives to carbonation, if you know it is going to sabotage you, why even risk it.

It doesn't stretch with carbonation. That's my point.

I had sleeve in dec. don't like the way beer or soda tastes now. I've tried a few times Bloody Mary too didn't like.

Probably a good thing or I'd drink all day. If you have to let it go flat it's not worth having. Seriously I don't miss and the fizz will bloat my stomach. Don't even try is best

I've posted a few times on this site and I'm a little disappointed by the lack of responses I've gotten. Wasn't this site to help users new and old to the Gastric world with questions or problems they maybe having, and to help with advice from someone who has gotten exactly what you have done?! anyway my question is...carbonated drinks...like beer, I've read some people drink them after they've sat out and gotten flat but I'm very interested in what people are saying about BEER, can I have a few sips? none at all? has anyone commenting tried to have some after their surgery? any advice would be great!!!!! and GO.....!!!!!!

Start weight on June 3rd, day of surger- 222lbs

Goal Weight- 120 or less

Current weight 200lbs

24 days post-op and I've lost 22lbs

Hi there. I haven't been sleeved yet. I am way too addicted to soft drinks (especially to Pepsi max) and I think cutting them out of my diet will be one of my big challenges. Is it better to cut all fizzy drinks right out? I'm worried that allowing myself a small amount, even flat, would open the door to my drinking too much of everything.

I accidentally drank some fizzy Water about nine months out and OUCH!!!! Tried a sip again just after a year and still OUCH. Haven't tried since.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
