Two Weeks Post Op and Weight Loss Stalled?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery June 15. My weight was 280 on the day I started my pre-op full liquids (June 9) I lost down to 253.6 as of June 23. On June 24 it showed I had gained 1.4 lbs. I have been stalled at 255 ever since. I am walking 3 miles a day and still on full liquids. I mainly have my Protein Shakes with a little Soup during the day. I'm confused as to why I have not continued to lose. Anyone have this experience or any suggestions? I'm feeling very defeated

I am where you are right now. I had my surgery on June 10th so I am almost 3 weeks post op. Week three has been a complete stall for me. I am just trying to focus on getting more Water and Protein. I feel like I am probably carrying more Water weight than usual as prior to surgery I drank gallon plus of water a day and now I am bustin' my butt to try to get the minimum, which I usually miss. In my mind, I assume the body is adjusting to the very low calories and compensating by hanging onto the weight. From everything I read, you just keep doing what you need to do and the scale will start moving again. So that is my plan!

It's normal to stall around that time. Your body is just playing catch up. It's so normal actually, I'm kind of surprised nobody warned you about it. Either search here or Google "The Dreaded Three Week Stall" and you will see it happens to 98% of us.

You're doing just fine. As a matter of fact, you're even a little ahead of the game with what you've lost so far. Keep doing what you're doing and the stall will pass.

Thank you so much. One thing I make sure of is to get my Protein. I use Intek mixed with skim milk. Two a day brings me in at about 80 grams a day. Really wish that dang scale would move!!! I wanted to slam it against a tree this morning. I am convinced it is a vile nasty liar (complete with new batteries!). Oh well--knowing I am not alone makes it much better :) (misery does love company lol)

What kind of Protein are you using? Sometimes that can be a factor.

I am right there with you..had my surgery on the 6/17 and have been stuck for a few days now. I know our bodies are adjusting but it would be so nice to see the scale move more right now ..makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong when it doesnt.

I was sleeved on 5/29/15 and I'm 30 days post-op and I'm stalled right now. I was 282.5 when I started my journey and the day of surgery I was 269.5 and today I'm 249. I've been stuck between 248.2 and 249.8 for the last two weeks! I'm getting in my 7500-10,000 steps a day and I'm eating my meals, getting my Protein in and avoiding all of the icky stuff that used to plagued me. I started crying today because my fiancé who isn't overweight but has been dieting per say to encourage me is losing more weight than I am. I'm so frustrated right now. I do have a thyroid problem and I'm meeting with my primary doctor tomorrow to get back on my meds. Hopefully that will jump start my weight loss. Shaun, my fiancé was 219 on June 17th and today he was 208!!! Why is it so easy for boys to lose weight without trying???? Ugh. Sorry I'm just venting.... Even though my RN said I'm ahead of the curve, I'm still upset. I'm rambling now.....

I had my surgery on June 10th, too, @@BizzyB!

I'm at a three week stall. (Actually, I gained a pound.) SO glad it's normal. I was so aggravated. They (nurses, surgeon, nutritionist, anyone!) should tell you about that pre-op. Jeeze.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
