Weight lost over time

Recommended Posts

I've been searching all over the place for more info on this but I'm bored at work and I just decided to go ahead and ask you guys.

I had my surgery on 6/2, Started at 445, 419 at surgery, 397 now.

Everything is going well but I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of weight you GUYS lost month to month. I know I'm just obsessing but I've been trying to search and find this stuff and I'm not having a ton of luck.

Does the 40 in the first month include the pre-op diet?

My biggest loss (counting from the day after surgery) was the 1st month ~ 20lbs. For the next 3 -4 months, I was losing around 15lbs month. My amount per month lost slowly trended down to about 9lbs a month over the next year.

The 1st 10 months, I lost 130 lbs, then lost another 40 lbs the following 6 months (and remember, Xmas and Thanksgiving were part of that last 6 months, so it took a few weeks to get rid of the holiday food I ate). :-)

So overall, I figure I averaged 9 1/2 - 10 lbs a month.

On surgery day, I was 415. My first month loss below counts the 2-week pre-op diet (before hitting 415) Also keep in mind that I had already lost 100lbs before surgery during insurance requirements)

Loss by month, starting with preop diet:

1st month: 30

2nd: 17

3rd: 25

4th: 15

5th: 15

6th: 13

7th: 17

8th: 13

9th: 11

10th (currently in): 10 so far with 1 more weigh in this weekend

I was sleeved June 10 at a weight of 394 and as of today am sitting at 362. I have been at 362 for the last 5 days. I think everyone looses at a different weight. Hoping for success like I see here from you guys!

I recently hit a plateau where I lost nothing in the last two weeks. I blame myself for eating too many Kind bars and not keeping a good log. Using FitBit to keep track of things and it seems my body must have gone into some serious starvation mode, because I am always under my calorie count and average a deficit of about 7,000 calories per week, but my body still holds onto the additional Protein calories I eat. Since I was advised to increase my Protein intake to 120 grams a day, my body just refuses to give it up. I will probably go back to a liquid and low carbohydrate diet to see if that kicks off the weight loss again. Even with all the Water I drink I am always hungry. Oh well, live and learn on this roller coaster ride.

I have learned that these weeks when I don't lose are part of my weight loss. For some reason, this 80% Protein, 20% good veges and fruit way of eating produces a very non-linear loss. I have adapted to it by keeping my calories around 1200 a day, get my Water and Protein grams in; weighing every 10 days; and frankly just relaxing and knowing with this formula I will lose the fat guy who lives on me. I recently did ten days without loss, but then in the next three days dropped a pant size!

I was sleeved on June 8th I was 355 down to 319 today. The stalls are real but they allow your body to adjust to the rapid weight loss. Just keep going and follow, the plan.

Here is what I do: I go to Target and buy their EAS brand of 24 g whey Protein powder. I mix it half and half with dry powdered milk, which ends up being 24-25 g. of Protein for two scoops. It is very lightly sweet, the chocolate is not too strong, and it does not have that cream texture of many Protein drinks. I mix it up a quart at a time and keep it very cold.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
