Pre-Op Diet Starts in One Week!

Recommended Posts

I'll be starting my pre-op diet one week from today. I'm excited and nervous all in one. Excited because I'm getting closer to my surgery day, and nervous because I know the pre-op diet won't be a piece of cake; especially with the July 4 holiday approaching. How did you avoid cheating during pre-op? Or, if you did cheat, how did that affect your progress? Did it impact your the ability to have your surgery performed? All input welcome!

Mine starts Wednesday. If you are considering cheating on your pre-op diet, I would suggest postponing your surgery. The sleeve is just a tool and it requires a life-long commitment to changing eating habits if we want to lose weight and keep it off.

Cheating on the liquid diet is also dangerous and some doctors won't do the surgery if they get in there and see that your liver hasn't shrunk from the pre-op diet.

I wish you the best with this process and hope everything goes safely for you.

It seems to be that all surgeons ask for different things. Some ask for a 2 week pre op strict diet, some want 3 days, as many options as there can be. I have to do a 2 week liquid only diet and know it won't be easy but I will do it and I WON't cheat. I don't see the point at this stage. If you go in feeling you will cheat (even subconsciously) then you will. Its 2 weeks out of you life, so in the bigger picture, to maximise your healing etc etc, its nothing. I also believe its a good tool to 'get your head together' before the op.

if you want it so bad then you can have it!! Have faith you can.

Keep visiting the boards, buddy up with someone going through the pre op at the same time and every morning remember it's only today. Don't worry about tomorrow before its there. When you are hungry, clean your teeth, go for a walk, drink a pint of Water, chew some ice, call your buddy, visualise yourself at the weight you want to be.

Hugs

Kate

What does your pre-op diet consist of? It seems that not all surgeons do the same thing. Mine was not liquid at all. It was 3 meals of 300 calories each Protein and veggies only and 2 shakes a day. You can do it if you really want the surgery and want to make the commitment to change your eating habits.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
