I'm 10 days post op! However I'm still feeling pain at my port area. Tugging, pinching, and just soreness! Does this go away? Why so much pain!??????

When having this pain, it makes me regret the decision! Like I should have had the sleeve instead....

Me too! I'm paranoid that I ripped it from the muscle. No one tells us that there will be this specific pain. At least I know I'm not alone.

How have your meals been?

Sorry to hear of your discomfort. I was pretty fortunate I suppose....hardly any pain at all! I just sat in the recliner in between walking around.....with a nice amount of Rx pain meds the first few days. But that was 6 years ago now.

What does your surgeons office say about the pain? Have they given you some pain meds? It is possible you're over doing it, lifting, etc and not resting up enough?

Best wishes!

The port area is the biggest incision and also takes see longest to heal. I never had any pain but did have soreness around the port for a few weeks. I was also told that the body will try to reject the port because it's a foreign body so this could cause some pain, swelling and even a pus type discharge that you will probably think is an infection but it's completely normal. It took over a month for mine to stop draining and heal. My doctor was not concerned. Good luck.. Hope this helps some.

Yes I'm also having a lot of pain at the port area. I'm 2 weeks post op and when I bend or sit in a certain position I feel intense pain at the port site almost like a burning and ripping of stitches or something. It lasts maybe 10 secs then eases. It's the worst when I'm driving and by end of day driving home from work I'm in tears. Is this normal and will it get better?

Pain in and around the port area is VERY common weeks after surgery; however, you should listen to your body and NEVER be afraid to call your doctor's office with any concerns. They got paid a nice amount of money, make it count!!!

Ok, I know this may be a dumb question but what is this "port" that everyone is talking about?

The port is what is placed under the skin, which is sutured to your abdominal wall. This port is attached to a tube inside the body that goes to the band that is around the stomach. The port gives the surgeon access to adjust the band by making it tighter or looser by using a Huber needle (a non coring needle). The middle of the port has a rubber type stopper that the doctor puts the needle in which is attached to a syringe filled with saline. The saline goes into the tube which goes into the band. The more saline that is in the band, the tighter the band is.

My port incision/area is also still sore. I cannot bend over or it feels like it is pulling.

That's normal. Give it time, it will improve :)

Hi me too - it is getting easier though and depending on what clothes I wear it can feel worse. Exactly 2 weeks for me tomorrow. Xxx

I am 6 weeks after my banding. I do feel a twinge here and there in my port area when I move a certain way. This has not stopped me in exercising or any other activity. I hope in time that you experience less issues. I do however think it will be something that I am conscience of forever. Meaning I now that the port it present.

Do the fills hurt? My first is 4 weeks post-surgery and I'm thinking that area is still going to be tender.

How is the weight loss going for you 6 weeks out?

My fill did not hurt. I am down 20ish lbs since my pre surgery diet. I go back next week for another possible fill. My doctor is very careful about only giving small fills in order to avoid being over full. I hope this helps.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
