HELP...Weight loss stall at 3weeks post op...

Recommended Posts

I lost approx 35 pounds from my two week pre surgery liquid diet to 2 1/2 weeks post op, I'm now approx 5 weeks post op and have a total of 38 pounds, I've lost literally nothing in the past two weeks...

I am strict with my diet, I can only get about 900 to 1100 calories daily, mostly Protein, minimal sugars, no sweets....

My wife suggested I try and increase calories, I did for a couple of days and actually gained two or three pounds. I walk at least 10,000 steps daily, some days I've done over 16,000...

I am extremely discouraged and starting to feel as though I made a huge mistake... Any body else experience this...

My do those says don't worry, but I'm starting to...

So if you are suddenly walking could it be that you are developing muscle, burning more calories so you actually need more, still not taking in enough Protein. I know it seems like we do everything we are told and we just have to tweak what works. Whatever you do, do not give up!! 38 lbs is a lot if weight and it could be your body adjusting. How about your Water?

I would just stick to it, it sounds like you are making amazing strides. Just keep doing what you are doing. I always feel like i should be smaller than what I am, but I when I stop looking at the scale and tags in my clothes and just thinking about how I feel it amazes me. At the 3 wk post op mark, I stopped losing weight, I felt bloated and at about 41/2 weeks, something changed. I woke up and jumped on the scale. Down 3 lbs. I could see it, I could feel it. You may not see the physical changes because you may still be swollen some. It will all come together as long as you stick to your plan. Getting a little discouraged is natural, but don't lose sight of your main goal!

Right there with you! I had RNY done one May 27th and lost 13 pounds the first week. But I've been stalled for 2 weeks straight now. I feel the same way. Why did I have this surgery done if I'm not going to lose anything?! I am a little over 3 weeks post op.

There is a similar post about this I saw earlier in the day where someone posted an article about WHY you are stalled or slowed at 3 weeks. Essentially it is your body's way of preventing starvation. Once it levels itself and your brain realizes that this is not an emergency situation but the new normal, you will start losing again. It can take 1-4 weeks from what everyone has said. This happens to almost everyone! It's NOT just you! I am in the middle of it as week, 3 weeks post op tomorrow. Just keep doing what you are doing. There is no way to trick your body out of this, it is in your chemistry.

I am 3 months post op and stalling. I am discouraged too. I need to get 30 more pounds off!

I hope things work out for you. I think my body as a woman works differently than a mans. So I don't have any advice....

Doc said I couldn't exercise until 6 weeks post op so all I'm allowed to do right now is walk.

Not in my book it's not. Walking isn't enough.

I got a exercise ball and sit and bounce in it while watching tv... Low impact, cheap, gets you sweating... But walking works as well I just use the ball when stuck indoors ..

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
