I'm late to this party and I just want to add that you need to focus on what is best for YOU and your family. Don't let the noise of others deter you from the course of action that makes the most sense for you. I've always been pro-choice, but I had always believed that I would NEVER have an abortion if it were me. That was until I got pregnant while I was working only part time, had no insurance, and the father was still a full-time college student without a job. Then the choice was SHOCKINGLY easy for me. Like there wasn't even a single second when I seriously considered KEEPING the baby. It's very easy to have convictions in the abstract, but until you are in a situation YOURSELF, you really can never know what you might do in some hypothetical scenario, much less what someone ELSE should do. So I 100% believe you and the father need to make this decision for yourselves and drown out the rest of the noise.

PS: I have never once regretting my decision, though I have MANY times looked back and been extremely thankful that I chose the way I did.

@@jaterika as is often the case whenever a person sincerely asks for advice on a very serious topic, it somehow snowballs into a heated debate about religion and politics, wherein the original post gets lost in the shuffle.

There's only one voice you need to respond to and that's the one inside your own head. When the time is right you will make whatever decision is right for you, and only you.

I wish you peace and happiness.

There is a pregnancy board here as well, look it up! I've read of several women who get pregnant 2 or 3 weeks after surgery. They have had very successful pregnancies and my Dr said you can continue to lose weight for about the first 3/4 of the pregnancy safely. While it's not recommended to be pregnant this early, it can be quite safe.

We have to remember that we are here to uplift each other not tear each other down.... I personally had to have one a long time ago because it just wasn't the right time... And unless you've walked in my shoes or anyone else whose been in this situation definitely keep your negative comments to yourselves!!!!THAT MAKES ME SICK!!!! How about that!!!! Unfortunate some of us weren't born with silver spoons in our mouths... Or have had family, financial, emotional support in decisions that had to be made...@jaterika:: talk it over with your significant other and listen to that special voice from within... Make a sound decision based on what u think is best!!!! Good luck to u!!! and there are some beautiful people here who are your bariatric family and will support u in whatever u decide...I'm one of them...

@@jaterika first off, it will all be ok. I firmly believe that you are exactly where you are supposed to be in life at any given moment.

I wanted to tell you that I had a scare (I'm a month post-op) and did some research, and I have actually not read anywhere that fetuses are harmed significantly when a pregnancy occurs earlier than planned. What I have read is that you do have to be very careful and make sure you're getting adequate nutrients and hydration, which can be done with a good nutritionist and doctor. I would get a 2nd opinion from another OB if you're considering that route.

Whatever you decide to do, we are here to support you. It's your choice, trust yourself. Take some deep breaths and try not to worry too much :)

We need to all hold our own opinions and judgements aside. Unless you are the one pregnant facing this situation then you truly don't know what it's like. Lets all just support each other. Its a very personal problem and a very personal decision. No one opinion or view is wrong or right. Prayers with you and you have to make the decision right for you at this time in your life that at the end of the day you can live with. There are plenty here that will support you either way.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
