August 4th surgery day....

Recommended Posts

I got my surgery date on friday... I'm very excited and nervous. I have several appointments between now and then...and the "liver shrinking diet" that I hadn't ever heard of...and then surgery. Any other early August patients? Anyone been on the liver shrinking diet?

Hello Flipper,

I should be sometime in August. I still have my last nutritional visit on 7/10 then submit to insurance for approval, the office said maybe 2 weeks for approval. Then 2 more weeks for pre-op tests like Labs and chest x-Ray. I have the Endoscopy on 7/17. So I am anxiously awaiting to find out the big day.

That's very exciting!! I'm so nervous...I think it's possible i've read TOO much on the topic..haha. I have to go to some seminar on 7/1 where i'll get a surgical binder. They said it woudl be an hour and a 1/2 of information overload but that i'd be given a binder with all the info so not to worry. then I meet with the nutrionist and go over my pre op diet plan and this "liver shrinking diet" ...which could be one in the same for all I know and then a meeting with surgeon and i'm ready. I was reading yesterday all about how people's taste buds change after surgery. stuff they really liked before they disliked after surgery...that was new news.

Is there a way you and I can follow one another on here and stay in touch? I'd love to have someone to chat with after surgery and check in with each other to see how we're both feeling etc. Would you be up for that?

I have a August 25th surgery date! The last of my 6 month preop appointments is on August 4th. They will submit to insurance for final approval!! I'm so excited!! It feels like a long wait. I have used this time to research, join a great support group and change my diet.

Best of luck to all of you!!

Flipper72, I have my sleep apnea study tomorrow night. I spoke with the office today and we are going to see about setting the surgery date for sometime in Aug, we will be submitting to insurance for full approval on 7/10. I was glad I didn't have to do a lot of the basics since I had done so much research the nurse felt I was pretty well informed. Lol! Just mainly what insurance wanted and required things from office. I would love to have a buddy to speak with.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
