Best clear liquids for 2 days post surgery.

Recommended Posts

My surgery for gastric sleeve is this coming Tues., June 16, 2015. What did you " eat " for the first 2 days of Clear Liquids? Can you use Protein Powder in chicken broth? Best recommendations please.

According to my doctor there are only two choices. Either Isopure or unflavored Protein powder in a clear liquid like Water flavored with Crystal Light and other various low calorie Water flavorings. But that being said I would think chicken broth would be fine as long as you put unflavored Protein in it. However, it might not taste the best depending on the Protein Powder you choose. I have heard some are better than others. I have not tried any unflavored yet so I will be interested in what the experienced sleevers will say.

Oh and you can also take an Isopure and dilute it with water and add more water flavoring of your choice to it to make it taste better.

Good luck finding something you like.

Unjury makes a chicken Soup Protein Powder that I used a lot, even when on full liquids, not clear. I was dying for stuff that wasn't sweet.

Other Protein concoctions: vanilla chai tea with vanilla protein powder added, beef broth with steak seasoning and unflavored protein powder, Syntrax Nectar fruit-type flavors made with Water.< /p>

I tried the Isopure drinks and found them horrendous, but I could choke them down if I split them 50/50 with a compatible flavor of G2, Powerade Zero, Vitamin Water Zero, or light fruit juice.< /p>

Ginger miso broth (I bought it at Trader Joe's) with unflavored protein powder added.

Just remember that if you are adding protein powder to hot liquid, you need to be careful. A food thermometer works well to make sure the liquid isn't so hot that the protein will curdle.

I used these: http://www.theisopurecompany.com/ 40g per bottle. My preference was the green tea. Just sip slow and get used to the signals from your new sleeve. I was surprised that it didn't hurt.

Oh, BTW, don't freak out when you get on the scale when you get home because you are heavier than when you left. You might not have eaten anything, but you will be pumped full of IV fluids. It might take a week for all that to get out of your system.

I only had to be on clears for two days. The first day of that, I was still in the clinic and only had ice chips, a little Water, and I think one sugar free popsicle. The next day I had a little Vitamin Water Zero, a few spoonfuls of broth, and i think like two tiny bites of Jello. If you are like me, you just aren't going to be able to handle much of anything that first day or two. Water is the main concern. I wouldn't worry about Protein much at all. Beyond those first two days, I still really only had popsicles, chicken broth, and water. Tried drinking a little Protein Shake maybe 3-4 days post-op. Then I really started working on getting more protein aroudn the 4 or 5 day mark. By that point I was allowed Protein Shakes and drinkable yogurt in addition to strained Soups.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
