Band to sleeve in one surgery. Who's had it done that way? How long had you had your band? What was your recovery like? Any complications? Regrets?

Recommended Posts

I understand that safest was is a 2 part procedure... band removal very easy...no recovery time at all, like go back to work after 3 days.....I pushed to have it done all in one procedure and did 8/31. So far so good. Nausea after eating (maybe too much) pureed most of the time is my only concern. Going back to work 8/16.....

Thank you for your response! 3 day was confirm today as well by the surgeon. He did say I might be in some pain but able to work my desk job.

I had band to sleeve conversion 7/7/15. I had my band for 7 years. Had no problems with the surgery. Had to stay an extra night in the hospital for nausea and vomiting, but was much better after coming home. Stay positive!!

My band (2006) to sleeve was done all in one surgery Jan 2015. I AM SO HAPPY THAT THING IS OUT OF ME!

Terrible pain and complications with the band. Early on had a band slip and had a SECOND BAND put in.

The sleeve is much better for me. Yes, it may be a harder recovery but once it's done and we are past the 3 month post surgery, complications are rare. *They don't tell you when you get the band that complications in the long run are much higher than other surgeries.

No regrets! They honeymoon post-op sleeve is past for me and I now have more hunger and can eat more. It's hard to believe that will ever happen right after surgery but it does. And eventually Water and food tastes normal again.

Life it good and now I have to be extra carful not to let the slider foods get in to my diet and keep losing. Worth the effort.

I'm having my band removed and the sleeve procedure done on June 26th 2015. At first I was concerned about the two procedures done at once, but my surgeon is the best in Tampa bay and I trust his expertise. He did the band for me back in 2006. Wish me luck as I begin this new chapter! I am anxious , scared and happy all at the same time.

Chrysacola, who was your surgeon? Do you recommend? Looking for recommendations for surgeons who do conversions in Tampa please.

I had my band 10 years. I am 8 weeks post op. And though losing weight has not been happening like I would like. ..I am so happy to have that thing out of me!

Sorry to dig up an old post, but I'm about to have a revision - you mentioned weight wasn't going away as much as you'd like - how is it now? How much did the sleeve help (or not) over the band? Thanks!

I haven't posted for a while but I am happy to give you my lapband to sleeve experience. In January 2018 it will be 3 years since I did the revision. I lost 90 pounds and I have maintained the loss within 7 pounds. I do go up and down within the 7 pound range. I am very happy with my maintenance. I wish I had lost about 20 more pounds but it appears I can maintain my current weight without a lot of struggle and my Doc has been very happy that I've maintained the loss. I'm 67 yrs old.

My lapband to sleeve was done in one surgery. I asked my surgeon to get THAT THING out of me and do the sleeve all at once. Lapband was terrible experience in so many ways. Pain every day.

The sleeve isn't perfect but for me SO MUCH better than lapband. I have no regrets at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
