255 Pounds

I just realized today that 255 pounds is a pretty big milestone for me and I wanted to share why.

I must have been in about 9th grade when I stepped on the scale and it said "255". I very clearly remember thinking- "Oh my god I am so fat and so close to 300 pounds. If I ever weight 300 pounds I'm going to kill myself". I'm not much of a drama queen- so that was a pretty big thing for me to say to myself and I'm pretty sure I meant it even then.

Well, I got to 300 pounds and you know what? I was killing myself. Just slowly.

So, now I sit at a weight I haven't weighed since I was in 9th grade. What a feeling.

Has anyone ever heard the saying "What we fear we create"? I think in this case it fits perfectly. I was so afraid that I was so worthless and such a fatty that I'd end up weighing 300 pounds one day.

Interesting.

But aren't you glad you don't have to go through all those "adolescent" feelings again! You have done so remarkably well...physically and emotionally! It's a pleasure and encouragement to hear about your progress. Best of luck today and everyday!

It looks a whole lot different going by when you're heading down than the way it did when you're heading up. I didn't like the weight I'm at on the way up, but it sure feels good on the way down. :)

Congratulations, Megan. That's a big deal, getting down to a teenage weight, no matter what the number is.

When I was 13 I dieted down to 142 lbs. I was a big-boned 5'7" then, and my parents and the diet doctor all said I was still too fat. When I look at pictures of myself, I don't know what they were smoking! And of course I didn't stay that size for very long. . . headed straight for 200.

By the way, I love your Buddha quotation.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
