First fill yesterday (5 weeks post op)

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks post op and had my first fill yesterday. I was so nervous but it was nothing to be nervous about. I was weighed and had lost 18 pounds. I had a chat with the nurse, who was happy with my progress, and said as I've been doing well I don't have to have a fill but then we decided on 3cc's. I was asked to lay down, she found the port instantly and in a couple of seconds it was done, it was a few seconds longer this time as she had to check if there was already any Fluid inside and there was...1 cc! So now I have 4cc's. I go back in 3 weeks, I'm excited to see what I can achieve till then. Now back to fluids for 2 days, sloppy 2 days and then back to normal food. Don't worry about the fills guys!!!

Agreed, Letsgetskinny! I am not a fan of needles, but the port fill is absolutely NOT a big deal at all - my first fill, I didn't even feel it. Like ZERO sensation. My port is 'just' under the skin - not deep at all, so the "pinch" of the needle is barely noticeable (unlike shots you get in your arm. Yeeesh!)

The whole process takes less than ten minutes - my nurse checks my weight, asks me about the length of satiety between meals, checks in with me to ensure I am not experiencing heartburn, nausea, night cough, or stuck episodes, and then I'm up on the table. Swab, needle stick (painless), adjustment, needle withdrawn, bandaid. 1 minute later after a glut of Water, I'm putting my shoes on and I'm out.

I'm going for my 5th fill the day after tomorrow, and they are a piece of (low calorie) cake!

I remember how I obsessed over that first fill and then when the doctor gave me his arm to sit back up again I said, "aren't you going to do it?" Well he had done the fill and I was so busy shooting off questions at him that I didn't even notice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
