Gastric Bypass recovery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I would like to know what the longest any of you have heard anyone has been out of work after surgery. I will be having bypass surgery as well has a hernia fixed while they are in there. I have heard that it would not be out of the question to be out for around 6 weeks?

I was out for 4 weeks and have been back to work for a week. I truly wish that I could have had a little bit more time, but I'm doing okay. I am tired by the end of my day and come home and fall asleep for a little while. if you can take longer off without any problemsI would just to give yourself a solid recovery and a good footing in your new lifestyle. It was definitely easier to get my walking in when I was home all day.

I am taking 4 wks in total but only bc my job is very physical. I am 10 days post op and if I had a desk job I could be back at work. I will say though that while I feel ok, I am glad to be home and on my own schedule to get the eating, timing, drinking, and exercise routine down pat.

I only took 2 weeks off. I started back this week and it wasn't bad. Although when I get home, all I can do is fall asleep! Lol!

I had a mini bypass on Thursday and went back on Tuesday. Yes I was very tired but it was manageable.

I went back to school exactly one week after. It was hard, I was very tired and sitting was uncomfortable. I am currently 1.5 weeks out and feel pretty good, I am back to my daily activities. It depends on your pain tolerance and any complications that occurred. I could have done well with 2 full weeks off and been fine. I was clawing the walls during the one week but was still pretty tired after normal tasks like going to the bathroom. My side stitch is still tight so I have to be careful because it can get pretty sore with too much movement.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
