How much are you saving on food, post-surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious if anyone has crunched numbers and figured out if they are saving big on food costs after surgery.

I've always been aware that it costs more to eat better, than it does to eat poorly, Does portion size make a huge difference in your receipts?

I'm looking for ways to transfer money into exercise equipment and clothing. I spent a lot of money on food every month. 2 days away from surgery, I am wondering what to expect.

I have definately saved a lot, mostly because I prefer to eat at home vs. fast food restaurants. You are right, eating good Protein and vegetables does cost a bit more but your junk food costs go way down to make up for it.

I would also recommend that you invest in a good quality vacuum sealer because you end up with way more leftovers. You can pop them into a vacuum bag in "me" sized portions and toss it in the freezer. When you want to warm it up, simply simmer in a bit of boiling Water and you have a very fresh moist meal.

Now, when you do go out to eat, it is really great if you can share a meal with your significant other if that works for you. My problem is my hubby prefers crappy cheeseburgers to fabulous fish, chicken, turkey, shrimp or filet mignon. The good news is, I can always make at least 3 meals out of one using my vacuum sealer.

Lots of tips and tricks to saving money.

@@Djmohr Thanks for all those great tips! I maybe did fast food once a year, and occasionally go out to eat, but the grocery store saw a lot of my money, spent on a lot of junk. I'm going to look into a vacuum sealer, that sounds like a great idea.

Thanks so much for all the input!

I haven't really saved and actually find it so wasteful! I'm not big on taking leftovers, so I always end up throwing out a bunch (unless I have someone to split my meal with).

Nothing goes to waste in my house, and my grocery bill is the same, this week it was a bit more actually $512 but that i have 4 teenagers and a man in the house.

On lunch alone, I'm saving about $30 a week. I'm no longer buying any Breakfast, but that doesn't account for the maybe $1-$2 worth of food I eat from home. So maybe another $10 a weeK. As for dinner, our cost have remained the same. It's the one meal I do share with my family. So whatever is cooked, I will a small amount, eat some of it and add my food to it or not it at all, but i still have something. Are we saving money all around, yes!! The plus side of this whole change is that they are changing too. My husband is down a shirt size. Sodas are no longer being bought (huge ordeal in thus house that a $20 a week habit in this house). Less junk and more fruits and veggies. They may be higher cost, but as a whole we are healthy. I'm so happy and honestly would pay anything to see it!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
