So I get really nauseated during/after anesthesia and when taking narcotics.

For my WLS my surgeon prescribed a scopolamine patch and I did okay. Not perfect but better than usual. I also typically take zofran post op with narcotics.

My plastic surgeon has prescribed Enmend pre op and it's a $100 pill. Is it worth it? Post op he has prescribed Phenegran suppositories. Again, better than Zofran?

I am inclined to "stick with what works" even though it doesn't work 100%. But if I get a resounding chorus singing the praises of these meds I am willing to try them!

What do you all think?

I have never heard of Enmend, so I had to look it up. Apparently it is prescribe quite frequently for chemotherapy patients. I did just fine with the Scopolomine ear Patches, Reglan, and Zofran. I also took (and still take) Omeprozole to reduce reflux. The nause subsided considerably after the first week, when I was able to stop the Hydrocodone I was taking for post-op pain.

Thanks! The scopolamine and zofran were okay for me with WLS/narcotics, but didn't completely control the nausea (I did pantaprozale for the acid, but stopped after two months of no problems).

Would love to hear if anyone has used the Enmend and Phenegran. Thanks

I had reglan and I still will use it if I get nauseated. I also was on Prilosec and Carafate. and tums . I don't get nauseated much. and the reglan worked really well and it has a generic so will be cheaper.

I work in the recovery room and usually the best cocktail for nausea is dexamethasone, zofran, Emend, scope patch. Phenergan works very good post op as a second resort.

@@jess9395, I understand it's pretty user specific. However, my own surgery story left me nauseated to the point that, for the first time in my life, I would have preferred to die than spend another day like that. At that point I was on the Scope patch, emend, zophran and dexamethasone.

Once I got the Phenergan, however, everything was right with my world. Now I just use zophran every once in a blue moon for nausea that's bad enough to keep me from doing my daily routine but nothing so bad as when I needed the Phenergan.

Thanks for all the input! I think I am gonna try and get a scopolamine patch to go with the "cocktail" just because I know it works at least somewhat for me and then go with what they recommend since it's worked for many here ????

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
