September seems like it will never get here!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else have a long waiting period? I have a 6 month diet and exercise requirement for meritain insurance. It feels like it is just dragging by a a snails pace. I started March 1st so the earliest my surgery will be is in September. Ugh! I am encouraged reading about others journeys and can't wait to be on the post op side!

I know how you feel. I also started my 6 months in march, per insurance requirements. It seems so far away, but I just know it will be here before I know. Stay strong.

Trust me, it will fly by! I started my journey in December, and in 18 days I'll be at my sixth and final visit. With all the tests that I had to complete with the cardiologist, psych appts., etc. it made it go quickly! Good luck to the both of you!!

Use this time to do research, collect samples, and educate yourself. I prepared by giving up fast food, soda, cleared out my kitchen and started at the gym.

Ouch, 12 months is a long time! I won't complain about 2/6 completed.

I am keeping busy with diet and exercise, have read a couple books and have done a good bit of research. Several people who have has VSG in my department at work ( I am a nurse and work in a hospital), have brought me various Protein Bars and shakes to try out. It is really nice to see their progress and have their support. I meet with the NP May 13th. I'll be at the halfway point!!

I also have to wait 6 months due to the supervised weight loss program. I started in January so technically end of June early July would be my surgery date, but I have a already-paid-for family vacation in early august and don't want to be in recovery so my surgeon and I are shooting for beginning of September. I feel like it's a lifetime away. I know, it's nothing compared to how long I've been living unhealthy but still...I have been researching, sampling Protein so I'm not rushing last minute and being stuck with ones I can't tolerate(even though I know taste buds change for a lot of sleevers), going to support groups, and doing whatever I can to prepare. Good luck to everyone on their pending sleeves!

I know how you feel, but it will really fly by. I started my process in September and was sleeved in March. Use that time to do plenty of research and to improve your eating and exercise habits now. The more you can change ahead of time, the easier the surgery and recovery will be.

Ween yourself off of fatty foods, fast food, sugar, and caffeine now. It will make it easier when you get to the pre-op diet and after surgery.

You can do this.

mine is also 6mo. From what I have seen that is pretty standard. (I would assume unless you go out of the country to have your surgery done.) My inital appointment was mid Feb so I am looking at mid August hopefully. I am almost half way there. I think it has gone fast. I have finally got my Protein shakes figured out (I think). now I am on to researching/sampling Vitamins. Also trying to lose the required 10 lbs and get myself into as good a shape as I can to hopefully make recovery as easy as possible. anyone have any recommendations of which chewable vitamins are the best tasting and nutritional values?

It will go by faster than you think. I had a 1 year wait. This had nothing to do with insurance, my surgeon just has a long wait list. But it gave me time to get into an exercise routine. My body was better prepared for the surgery, and so far my recovery has been pretty easy.

I have a one year wait. It sucks, lol.

At least I've gotten a head start on losing weight during the last five months.

Mrs Kaje,

When is your year up? I graduate on September 29th. I've lost 46 lbs since September 2014 until now. Just maintaining until surgery time. My eating habits have changed, just gotta add more exercise. That's easier for me in the summer since I teach.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
