Feeling sick after eating

Hi

Had my sleeve done April 11th 2015

I just started my soft foods today. Everything has been great until I tried supper. Had fish and carrots. Ate about 1 oz of my fish and hardly any carrots and now I am feeling sick. Stomach is hurting and I feel like I'm going to throw up. Is this normal for the first time you eat anything more solid than yogurt and Soup?

It is and can be challenging to learn your new tummy. It's like a newborn. One thing you can try is to just eat one new food at a time. That way if you have any nausea or pain it's easier to pinpoint

My early experience (10 days post-op) is that if you eat slowly and chew rigorously before swallowing is the key. Be watchful for any situations where you speed up (to talk, or interact with others)

  • Make sure to eat super super slow and make sure foods are really moist. Adding sauces sometimes helps.

Does anyone have/had The feeling in your chest...when you drink a slushy really fast and it freezes your head or chest...that kinda of feeling ..... I'm sure it's heartburn but I'm just on liquids, I'm not even getting all my liquids in yet I'm only 5 days out on liquids, when you drink a slushy really fast and it freezes your head or chest...

I'm 3 mo's out and still have this feeling. It's like an air bubble that is stuck with the food and nothing comes up or goes down. Even in 3 mo's time, I have to remind myself at every single meal to eat slow! I'm sure I take too big of bites and eat too fast, causing this, but yes....I'm with you on this!

I went to the store yesterday and bought the Omeprazole and I am having the best day since my

surgery. It really does work, at least it has for me. I was able to eat soup today without

suffering.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and your advice! I tried something more solid yesterday and chewed it really good ! It stayed down!

What do you find is the best soft foods to eat at the soft food stage?

I'm struggling to find things because I don't eat eggs or tuna and on my sample meal plans there is always eggs and tuna.

I lived on fat free refried Beans with a bit of cheese during the soft foods stage because not much else agreed with me at the time.

Kathrine1970,

Sounds like you got the reassurance you need. Could be just the first time you ate something more solid than yogurt, or it could be you developed a food intolerance to the fish or carrots. Like the others said, try one food at a time (so you can determine if it’s fish or carrots or neither) and be patient. If it really is an intolerance, it could take days or weeks or months to work itself out, and the only thing you can do to help is to not push it. If your body doesn’t take it, it doesn’t take it.

Good luck. You’re doing well!
