Feeling really stupid about my food choice?

Recommended Posts

So my husband brought home a cowboy pizza from Papa Murphys. Oh, and he brought home one of those dessert pizzas too, lol. :-)

Normally on Friday or Saturday I do not "cheat" on my plan, I just will normally have some different food choices just so I don't get bored, but I don't be neglect my plan.

I figured since my husband brought home pizza I would give it a whirl. I probably had a quarter of the slice of pizza, rarely much at all. I am five and a half months out. I feel like I have just eaten a brick. I know that we're not supposed to eat doughy things 8 weeks after surgery. I know I've read that some people eat pizza now some people don't. However was that a stupid choice for me to have a little bit of pizza? I just decided to have something different tonight vs tomorrow since he brought it home tonight but wasn't thinking that it was a "do not eat" food.

I was only thinking the amount of what I was eating. But I feel like I've eaten 8 ounces of food and literally I probably had 3.5 or 4.

Thanks

Are you having a lot of troubles digesting it? Maybe next time just have the toppings. That's what I have been doing, since my tummy doesn't care for the crust. I just skim off the meat, cheese and veggies (no sauce, because it and I have agreed to disagree!!!). Nix the dessert pizza, tho! Not for me! If I'm going to do dessert, it is going to be something FANTASTIC, and that is something I'VE made! I mean, if I'm going to do it, it WILL be awesome - and just a bite!

Maybe it was just too heavy for you... Nothing stupid about it-- just information for you that your sleeve is clearly not a pizza fan!

I didn't see you say that your stomach reacted badly to the choice but your concern was more of a bad choice. I am 7 months post op and every 2 weeks have one slice of pizza . My tummy handles it well and I only make a choice like that once a week. To be honest once I increased my calorie intake to 1000 calories a day I was able to get pass a big stall. As long as you don't eat pizza every day you will be fine .

I've had pizza I think twice. It took like 6 hours or more to eat it and I didn't eat the crust. Tasted great and I don't guilt myself. Why? I can only take a few bites before I have to put it down anyway. Why stress the small stuff? In comparison the old me would have put away at LEAST 12 large pizzas in a year. 2 slices vs 12 large pizzas, what is that like 72 slices? In a year? Let it go, you're fine.

I have been able to eat pizza since I started solid food. I can comfortably eat one slice. This is a blessing and a curse! I make sure we don't get it very often because I don't want that one slice to increase to 2!

I eat pizza occasionally, but usually go for thin crust if possible. It's just not one of my favs after surgery since it sits kinda heavy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
