Macomb County Michigan Newbie scheduled in May

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie, live in Michigan. Dr. Pesta is my surgeon. I had to do 6 months of supervised weight loss to be covered by insurance. It's been a VERY long and agonizing road but I finished my 6 months this month and am scheduled for surgery for next month. Been lurking on here for a little bit. Some great topics and great resource for me. I've been testing different Proteins and so far I haven't cared for any of them really. I've tried the Isopure bottled Fruit drinks, muscle milk, premier Protein and one other I can't remember but they all kinda suck! lol.

I've struggled with weight my whole life. I was taught terrible eating habits growing up and continued those habits into my adulthood.

Anyone around my area? Anyone scheduled May 19th?

Amazing!!! No complications I've lost 60lbs and it's the best decision I've ever made and I would do it all over again!

That's awesome to hear! I'm looking forward to getting mine done. I'm so tired of the constant battle. It would be nice to have a tool to actually help me! Any tips you can provide?

You'll do great!! Just be patient the beginning was the hardest part as time goes on you'll learn what you can and can't eat (fries now make me sick, which isn't the worst thing ever makes it easier to stay away) and follow everything your doctor tells you to do!

I'm in the thumb. I had mine with Dr. Taylor at the Barix Clinic in ypsalanti one year ago. I've heard they're carried at Kroger. I have 2 small town stores by me that carries them. Rockin' Refuel. LOVE them! 30 grams Protein but we only (fine by me) have chocolate. It's chocolate milk but lactose free. 2 bucks each. At first I could only drink half at a time so a buck a meal, that's reasonable enough.

I agree. The first few months are difficult. You go from eating so much down to trying to get enough! Your brain says "yes I can" while your sleeve says "no way in hell."

It's worth it though. Just don't go into it thinking you've got it all figured out. You don't "get" it til you "GET" it.

@@kimpossible67 How was your experience with Dr. Taylor? I'm looking at scheduling a consult with him in June.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
