Removing all the liquid before second fill?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I had my second fill yesterday and was amazed that the nurse that completed the fill withdrew all the liquid from my port and then placed it back in plus the increase. Is this normal?

It seems a really strange thing to do?

Surely deflating the band all the way would cause movement of the band?

It was so painful when she put the needle in. She explained that my port is really deep. Does anyone else have this problem?

When I had my first fill I had it under x-ray and it was completely pain free.

Positive though as it looks like the extra 1 ml has given me good restriction.

I had six fills and in each and everytime I did it my doc took the liquid all out (they check if there was the same quantity they had put in last time or if some is missing) and put it all back in with an increase. It's really a very weird sensation... :) I'm with 8cc on a 10cc band.

my doc does it without x-ray, he's very experienced and he get's the needle on the correct spot on his first try, no poking around...

Thank you this has put my mind at rest.

If only they explained as they were doing the procedure my mind would not go racing off.

Many thanks again

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
