Just something to throw out there at all of you losers!!

As we are all losing weight, pretty rapidly, we need clothing that doesn't cost a fortune!

Goodwill (or places like it) is a GREAT place to get CHEAP clothes...

I got 2 pairs of jeans and a pair of shorts for a grand total of $14.50 the other day.

Granted they don't fit YET.. but they will...

one pair of jeans was $3.50...

Be prepared to have to look through everything since there is basically no organization... other than sorted by color for tops and pants other than jeans...

ALL jeans are lumped together in no particular sizing order...

at least that is how it is at the ones I went to..

I am so with you on the thrift shops! I have been regularly checking the local thrift stores and buying clothes that I love in various sizes. I have been doing this for over 6 months and have a nice collection built up now. I have sorted the clothes by sizes and boxed them by sizes. I stack the boxes with the smallest size on the bottom and the biggest on top. It makes it easier as I drop sizes so I don't have to dig through looking for the next size I need. Sorting the different sizes into individual boxes has also helped me to know how much I have for each size and which sizes I need to concentrate on. I can't seem to imagine getting below a size 12 so I have very few things below that size. I figure once I start getting closer to a size 12, I will start shopping for smaller sizes if I feel I have a good chance of needing them. Thrift stores are definitely a WLS patient's treasure chest!

Luvin Life - that's great that you're so organized! I could (should!) probably do the same thing in my own closet with clothes I already own. They vary from size 8 to 18 with all of the fluctuations I've had. It would help me to know what's where so I don't miss a great outfit because I didn't find it in time.

I also found the Forever 21 near me has a great plus size section where I found lots of nice fitting, stylish, and CHEAP clothes!

My favorite jeans pre-surgery were Old Navy Diva boot cut dark rinse. I started out in size 20 and when they were on sale for $19.99, I bought two pairs each in sizes 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 and 8. On average I lasted in each size about two months so I feel I got my money's worth. I used to stare at those size 8's and they seemed so tiny at the time. I couldn't imagine ever fitting into them. Now those size 8's are fitting me perfectly! My wardrobe has been quite limited the past year since surgery. I tend to live in jeans so those and a few shirts to swap out we're all I needed. Now that I'm at goal I'm investing more money in expensive pieces.

I found Goodwill great for casual things, and such good deals. Then I looked hard to find a good consignment shop that carries BOTH plus size (so i can turn the things in that are too big in those sizes) and ladies sizes for my current weight. I looked especially for one that advertised labels and professional clothes, so I get to shop 'the good stuff' with my consignment money there, and jeans, tshirts etc at the Goodwill places.

The most important thing about shopping ahead for smaller sizes is to only buy clothes you absolutely LOVE! There are so many clothes you can buy at thrift stores and you only get to wear these clothes for a limited amount of time. Make sure you buy things you love and something you feel you will live in for the short time you wear it. It isn't any fun to get to a new size if you aren't excited about the new clothes you finally get to wear.

You are so right on that one! I'd also say not to buy too much ahead for another reason - for me I use the fun of shopping for something that fits me in-the-moment as a reward for losing another chunk of weight. A non-food reward! I look for those where I can, and like the feeling of celebrating my hard work - even if i don't buy anything, just going and trying on things that now fit feels rewarding. I seriously never thought this much or spent this much time on clothes in all my life! Feels so silly to do so now, but also so good.

I also find clearance racks are good choices too, especially at places that give you "money" to use in the future. I found 3 pairs of pants at kohl's for about 25 dollars. I know it's a little more expensive than goodwill but I also thought it was a good choice, especially for work clothes.

eBay. I've purchased cloths in near new condition that retail for over $100, for $9 - $15 including shipping (most cases). Since most folks selling used cloths on eBay do so as a business, most I've found also accept returns.

i am struggling! I feel like i am tossing clothes every month. I literally have no spring or summer clothes. And getting dressed is now very frustrating. I go to my closet and just want to cry. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE that i have lost over 80lbs and am now a small 10, but it makes getting dressed hard. The clothes I bought when i was a 12 are now getting to be too big and arent flattering. I am nervous about buying more clothes because i dont know how small I am going to get. sigh..what to do :(

I can really relate @MOSunshine ! I"m in the same boat, but my loss has now slowed enough that my clothes are 'lasting longer' size wise. And while it sounds to all the rest of the world like a great problem to have, or they roll their eyes and completely disregard the frustration we have over this - it's still a real issue to deal with, so good for you speaking up and putting it into words. I"m down about 115 now, and work in a religious setting so the next four days are the height of the whole year, with different services on every day (plus one tonight!). Looking in my closet this evening about what to wear each of the next four days was really frustrating and irritating. I tried things on and these things I used to LOVE (Eileen Fisher taupe silk artistically-cut kimono!) now hangs sack-like on me and drops at the shoulders. My go-to really nice thing is now heading for the Consignment-store-closet in the guest room until I can get over there again. Argh!! I'll be fine, and wear something presentable, but i liked knowing I had collected a few really good pieces. Now like you I hesitate to invest in them until I know how much smaller i'll get, and I'm not finding things quite as nice as that (on the conservative side) even at the higher end consignment stores. So - thanks for letting me crash the whining party and join in! We're allowed, even if it IS a good thing that's causing the rant. :D

Maybe it would be a good idea to set up "clothing swaps" with other local WLS patients. Then you can trade in your "too bigs" for something smaller, and everybody wins (except maybe those in the small sizes - but at least they can contribute their "too bigs" to the community!). Just a thought!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
