Gastric sleeve , I'm so sick

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on 3-19-15 . the second I was out of the hospital I was super sick. I try to keep Fluid down as well as most of my Protein Shakes . the nausea and vomiting come at random times, and every day. I just was hospitalized for being so sick and was released yesterday but again today I am so sick! It has been a lot to handle and scary. The good thing is I have no leaks but this sickness I feel is just to much! Anyone else experience this? What helped? What did you do? Please any advice or info would help greatly! Thank you.

Do you now have a prescription for a nausea medication? Rest would be good.

Are they giving you anything for it? What about PPI's or H2's?

Yeah I have tried the Patches, zofran, and phangren (s/p?) Nothing seems to stay down long enough to work or it just doesn't work. I'm hoping that soon it will go away, this being sick thing is really exhausting

I had my surgery on 3/18/15 I find if I eat too much or too fast I end up with dumping syndrome. I am taking opermazole and ursodal. They help but not if I am doing the above. It is a real challenge to eat slowly and small portions. I'm still pureeing food. I hope you feel better soon.

I had my sleeve 3-19-14. Was fine the first 2 months. Then I started throwing up everything I ate and drank. Was nausous 24/7, slept with a big plastic bowl because I couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough. Oral anti nausea meds did not work. The only thing thit would give me relief was IV anti nausea meds. I was in and out of the hosp/ER. My SURG said there wasn't anything wrong with me. I found out over the phone he was referring me to his partner. It took them 6 weeks to get my records to his office so I could schedule an appt. I begged my primary to order home iv therapy for me.after a week of continuous medicine the vomiting stopped. I throw up once in a blue moon now. The new Dr did an endoscopy and told me I had Bile Reflux. I already had damage to my esophagus and the lining of my stomach. I was put in 3 meds and told I would need gastric bypass with a bowel resection to fix it. I'm not having another surg until I get a second opinion. There is a well respected bariactric surg at Barnes hospital, Dr Eagon who I want to see. He might have a less invasive way to treat this. I have lost 135 pounds, 330 to 195. My cardiologist released me because my leaky valve repaired itself with my west loss. My cardiologist was after me for 2 years to have this done. I'm limited on foods I can eat. I literally spent 8 months living in my bed. I lost a ton of muscle mass and could barely walk. Now I can walk a mile in 15 minutes so I have diff entry gotten better. But I know I have more treatment/surg down the road to correct the issue.

Everytime I eat something I get nausous and I stay nausous until I can start drinking liquids again. I am so nausous now in fact, and it's been 2 hours since I ate Breakfast.< /p>

I am doing better, I have a ercp procedure coming up to hopefully help with my liver and pancreas ,I have been in the hospital 9 times in the last month. Hopefully this is the last step, I'm having trouble with acid reflux now (at least I think that's what it is) so I'm being very careful of things I eat. I have lost a lot of muscle mass to from living in the hospital, I am now trying to regain strength and hopefully return to work soon I've been so sick I haven't been able to work but now that things are looking up I'm going they stay looking up :)

Hoping they*

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
