I allow myself 4oz of black hazelnut caffeinated coffee per day since 30 days post surgery. I then must drink an extra 16 ounces of Water because of my indulgence. :)

Can I ask why? Not that the extra 16 oz. of Water isn't great no matter what, but why does it have to be a trade-off for your coffee?

According to my Nut, I'm not allowed caffeine. It may act as a diuretic and hinder my daily Fluid intake. So, just in case it's true, I drink an extra 16 ounces of water, on top of the 64++++ ounces I already drink. <--- my own little head game I suppose.

Well, according the the mayo Clinic and MANY studies a quick Google search will turn up, caffeinated beverages do count toward your daily Fluid intake and don't cause fluid loss:

Started drinking coffee about two months out and I'm really bad with it...I drinks two cups a day sometimes. Now that I saw this post, I feel like a cup right now. LoL. But has not bothered me one bit.

Heh! Well there's definitely no harm in drinking more Water every day! I would say if you are fitting it in now, keep it up!

I am a week out & I had a very small cup this morning. No ill effects that I can tell. I am going to talk to my Nut about it.

I've been sticking to Decaf per my guidelines. My surgeon did say caffeine is an appetite stimulant and that's why he doesn't want patients to drink it. However when I go back to work I'll try a small amount, because I'll need it, but not being able to have Creamer may make it easier to give up. Iced Tea sounds good too.

I switched to Decaf just to be safe. My Nut hasn't got back to me. Since surgery my favourite thing to drink is decaf ice tea with truvia. Waters with flavors added, mio, crystal light, and everything else seems to have an aftertaste that I didn't notice because surgery. I hope this changes because even my favourite bottled Water, Deer park spring water has an aftertaste now. It taste like minerals now instead of plain water. I'm not sure why my tastebuds are so different now. I heard that you may not like things you liked before but I thought that was due to the way it made our new stomach feel.

I noticed that mineral taste in Water also. I just kept drinking it though, and I don't taste it anymore. That is pretty odd, lol.

I had my first cup 3 weeks out. I have had one cup each morning since and in addition to my coffee I add a little cream and a scoop of GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder to it. Lasts me a couple hours and then I usually am ready for like a hard boiled egg or yogurt by like 9:30-10 am. And have already gotten in 30 g of Protein.

I started drinking coffee about 2 mos. post-op. I love my coffee but have found it to interfere because drinking it fills me then dehydrates me. When I drink only Water I seem to lose more consistently. But I still always crave my coffee...:-D

I'm 3 months out and have been drinking it daily since week 3 without an issue...everyone is different though.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
