Money Talks.......

Thanks for replying, Gadget. I found it interesting that the girls thought that she was ugly because of the make-up and that they felt that she was trying to cover up something. To tell you the truth, I myself have never "got" her looks. I think she looks vapid and squinty-eyed and, well, plastic. I was also amused by their response to her name, Paris.

It might be interesting to ask them what effect they feel that her fame might have on her sense of herself, particularly as it is not anchored to actual accomplishments. You might also ask them what they feel about Paris's obvious resentment about being punished.

There is one thing I forgot: my youngest said, quite insightfully: "She looks like she thinks it's all about her."

Those are great suggestions. I will ask them when I revisit the issue next.

I had three girls, ages 14 and 15, at my house yesterday. We got to talking about Paris and her problems. These girls all readily admitted that they would love to be Paris Hilton, because she has so much money and can, seemingly, do whatever she wants to.

That's a good question for my kids, too -- "Would you like to live her life?" (pre-jail, of course). And the follow up would be, "How might a life like that end you up in jail?"

Hey ! My girl has made quite a few movies. All scary ones too. I know because I have seen then on the sci-fi channel. They all went to video not to movie houses.

I thought they were all awful too.

So she has tried to be an actress. She is just a lousy actress so she can only get "b" movies.

What is the world coming to when money can't buy you a good part in a movie!!!!

Just FYI.

Edie lol

ANY movie with Paris Hilton in it would be scary, IMHO.

I wish some of the other young movie stars would learn a lesson from this. If she had been allowed to come home with an electronic Bracelet, they sure wouldn't have learned anything. Maybe the judge was trying to make an example of her - afterall she's the ring leader. Whatever Paris does, so goes the rest of the tribe.

She has several things going for her (that the public, especially teenage girls are impressed with) and that's why she gets so much media coverage:

1. She's rich.

2. She has tons of self-confidence.

3. She loves all the publicity. I think she's one of those people who would rather have bad publicity than no publicity. Didn't they say that she wasn't really unhappy that her sex tape was all over the internet?

4. She's tall.

5. She's skinny. She can wear all the designer fashions and by wearing them and posing for the cameras constantly, she gets the designers publicity. They feed on each other.

6. Because she gets all the attention she wants, she gets to drag out all the newest fads first and whatever Paris considers cool, is bought by other young girls, all across the country. Once she showed up with her puppy in a designer puppy carrier, all the little starlets had to have puppies in pretty little puppy purses. Now young girls all over America are doing it (at least in my town.)

7. She's such an anomaly, even we people here at LBT are talking about her. Go figure.

If the sherriff had sent home a "nobody" to serve out the rest of their jail sentence, the judge would probably have cared less. BUT, since people like Al Not-So-Sharpton exist, the judge felt pressured to do something. He sent her back to jail not because of what she did, but because of who she is....and to me, that is the part that is unfair. I do not condone DWI, but lets face it...the reality of it is that she was returned to jail because she is Paris Hilton.

She wasn't sentenced to jail for DWI; she was sentenced for violating her probation and driving on a suspended license, which were the consequences of her original violation (DWI).

How could the judge NOT send her back, after specifically ruling that she would not receive early release? That sheriff might as well have stood on the courthouse steps and flipped the judge the bird.

Right, but, none of it would even be an issue if she was a nobody....

If she were "nobody" they might have let her out early due to crowding, etc but you can bet your booty they would not have released her because she was traumatized by the jail's "harsh" conditions. Sheriffs generally have a pretty unsympathetic philosophy.....if you don't like it, you shouldn't have come.

Don't think so. She violated her probation terms after the original charge of DUI. Sorry but there is not one rule for the rich and another for the average schmo.:( Susannah

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
