post op 3 1/2 years RNY in Maine

Recommended Posts

I started at 611 lbs and in a wheelchair full time in sept 2010. Due to chronic illnesses I started losing weight. But it wasn't significant. Aug 29, 2011 was my surgery. I was 474 lbs on day of rny. My lowest weight has been 224 in November 2014. I still fluctuate to as high as 235 lbs. My depression, anxiety and its meds are gone over a year. Asthma controlled, sleep apnea 95% improved, # yearly doctor appts reduced 93%, hospitalizations reduced 87% since wls, hypertension & high cholesterol resolved 100%, right knee finally replaced 10/2014 with marked reduction of generalized pain, type 2 diabetes in 100% remission but flares up when my body is under stress due to asthma or surgery. I no longer require 8 pillows to sleep on. I use 2 pillows by choice. I don't NEED my apnea machine in order to get sleep.Although quality of sleep is better when wearing apnea mask. I am no longer in a wheelchair and can walk without a cane or walker. Some bad habits have returned but am dealing with this use daily. It is my choice to eat, drink what I do. Choices once strict and in remember ssion need to find the right spot in my life again. Being aware of these issues is half th accomplishment towards healthy living. My support people dumped me. I sought help n support from Bariatric clinicians at first who then helped me to connect with in house support groups. I strongly recommend you find a sense of balance with hopes, dreams, desires, goals, family, friends, work and socially. This system is high risk for breaking down the further along post op you get. I am here for help, guidance, questions, or a shoulder to lean on. I admit I had many life threatening complications an a few life threatening medical episodes since the WLS. I HAVE ONLY 1 REGRET...... START EXERCISE EARLY IN YOUR JOURNEY AND KEEP IT A PRIORITY, It is very easy to "fall off the wagon to wellness". I wish you all success with your journey

Karyn, my heart goes out to you. I wish I could give you a hug.???? . You are awesome . you've come a long way. I am proud of you. You are stronger than you think. Most of the battle is in our heads . That's control central.. Some times its like a hijacker has taken over the controls and locked the door so we can't get in. And we are standing on the outside looking in , hopeless .. But we have to realize we are not locked out because we have the key and hand cuffs and taser to take control back and we have backup for support ..I will gladly be your back up.. And proudly stand by your side while you take back what's your. Your friend , Kendra

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
